Introduction

In the contemporary world of finance, banking institutions serve as the cornerstone of

economic growth, facilitating financial transactions, fostering savings, and fueling
investment activities. General banking, in particular, constitutes the core foundation of
any bank's operations, serving as the initial point of contact for customers and a hub for
various banking services.A network or collection of entities that offer us financial
services is known as a banking system.

It fills me with immense joy to reflect on my internship experience as part of my BBA

program, where I had the invaluable opportunity to spend three months with a
prestigious organization. During this period, I had the privilege of observing,
participating in, and learning about the intricacies of banking practices. I am deeply
appreciative of Janata Bank Ltd. (JB) for granting me this opportunity to work as an
intern.

Janata Bank Ltd. is a prominent banking institution in Bangladesh, boasting an

extensive network of branches that spans across the country. This extensive branch
network enables JB to provide comprehensive banking services to a wide-ranging
customer base. The bank places the utmost importance on customer satisfaction and
has articulated its commitment to meeting customer expectations through innovative
financial products and services.

In my capacity as an intern at Janata Bank Limited, I am currently engaged in the

preparation of a report titled "General Banking Activities of Janata Bank Limited."

Research gap
Creating a comprehensive and accurate report on this topic within a limited timeframe is
no simple feat. Every step of this study has been carried out with the commitment to
ensure its thoroughness and honesty. However, it's important to acknowledge that
during the preparation of this report, several challenges and constraints have arisen,
including the following:

*As an intern, I don't have access to all the confidential or sensitive data
*Limited experience as an intern
*The limited duration of the internship
*Banking institutions deal with sensitive financial and customer data, which restrict the
inclusion of certain information in the report due to confidentiality concerns.
Objective of the Study
This report aims to fulfill the necessary criteria for my Bachelor of Business
Administration degree by documenting and conveying my internship experience. The
objectives of this report encompass the overarching purposes of the entire internship
journey:

To gain actual experience with the banking system

To comprehend the general everyday operations of the banks
To learn more about Janata Bank Limited's management system
To research current banker-client relationships
To understand how deposits and loans are analyzed

Methodology of study
Based on data pulled from various sources and gathered by employing a particular
technique, the study is carried out. The total approach has been broken into two main
components in order to achieve the goals of this report.

Methods for Data Collection

This report includes both primary data and secondary data,The fundamental method for
gathering primary data was the personal interview method. This involved direct
one-on-one conversations between the interviewer and the participants, allowing for
in-depth discussions and the gathering of firsthand information.I obtained the secondary
information I needed by accessing the client's information files, the annual report of
Janata Bank Limited and others.

Literature Review
General banking is the starting point of all the banking operations. It is the
department, which provides day-to-day services to the customers. Every day it receives
deposits fromthe customers and meets their demand for cash by honoring cheques. It
opens newaccounts, remit funds, issues bank drafts and pay orders etc. Since bank is
confined to provide the services every day, general banking is also known as „retail
banking‟ (Samia, 2013)
.
Timeframe
For the ratio analysis, I chose 10 years of annual reports (from 2013 to 2022) of Janata
Bank.
