The following data refer to design figure used in designing a summer


air conditioning plant of a theater employing chilled water spray.
Theater capacity 1500 seats. Inside design condition is 25 °C dbt and
50% RH Outside design condition is 35 °C dbt and 26 °C wbt. Fresh air
per person is 12.75 m³/hr. Supply air per person is 51 m³/hr.
Temperature difference between supply and return air is 14 °C.
Calculate:
a) Room total load "RTH" in W.
b) Room sensible heat factor "RSHF".
c) Cooling capacity in tons-ref.
d) Apparatus SHF.

4. A chilled water spray system is used to cool and dehumidify 11,400 kg/hr
of air from 30 °C DBT and 21 °C WBT to 13 °C DBT. Determine the cooling
capacity in tons-ref, apparatus SHF and dew point.

8. A cold dry air at 10 °C and 60 % RH is required in industrial process, when


the ambient conditions is 41 °C DBT 25 °C WBT. The required conditions are
Sheet 4 achieved first by cooling and dehumidification and lastly by cooling. The
dew point temperature of the cooling coil is 10 °C. If the air quantity
supplied is 200 m³/min. Find the capacities of different equipment used.

10. Air flows at rate of 8 kg/s with parameters of 35 °C DBT and 60% RH
mixed with another unknown amount of air at 15 °C DBT and 40% RH. The
final mixture temperature is 23 °C DBT. Calculate the air amount.

5. The following data refer to summer air conditioning plant for a
restaurant. Inside design condition 26 °C dbt and 19 °C wbt. Outside design
condition 34 °C dbt and 25 °C wbt. Internal sensible heat is 18,710 W.
Internal total heat is 28,070 W. Outside air sensible heat is
5,166 W. Calculate:
a) The capacity of cooling coil in tons-ref.
b) The quantity of supply air in m³/hr.
c) The quantity of outside air in m³/hr.
d) Amount of condensate in lit/min.

6. The following information was obtained in designing the summer air
conditioning plant in a print hall. Inside design condition is 21 °C dbt and
70% r.h. outside design condition is 38 °C dbt and 28 °C wbt. Amount of
outside fresh air is 50% of the total air supplied. Estimated internal sensible
heat gain is 175,000 W. Amount of internal moisture gain is 65 kg/hr. The
temperature difference between supply and return air is 6.5 °C. Determine:
a) The quantity of supply air in m³/hr.
b) The refrigeration capacity in tons-ref.

7. The following data refer to an air conditioning system of a Gallery area
having 200 persons capacity of a Museum. The outside design condition is
34 °C dbt and 28 °C wbt while the inside design condition is 24 °C dbt and
50% RH Heat transmission and solar radiation loads is 140,000 W. Lighting
load is 83 kW. Moisture gain from an indoor fountain is 18.72 kg/hr. For
each person: the sensible and latent heat are 100 W and 70 W respectively
while the fresh air is 18 m³/hr/person. The recommended minimum fresh
air is 20% of the supply air as a space ventilation.
Estimate:
Sheet 5 a) Amount of supply air in m³/hr.
b) Cooling capacity of coil in tons-ref.
c) Amount of condensate in lit/min.
