Title: Before, during, and after “Earthquake” and “Volcanic Eruption”

Grade level: Grade 6

Competency:
After the lesson, the learners should be able to:
1. Enumerate what to do before, during, and after earthquakes and volcanic eruptions; and
2. Show appreciation about the importance of safety precautions to observe before, during, and after
earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
3. Demonstrate understanding on the effects of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions

Materials: Manila Paper, Picture, Marker, and Paper

A. ENGANGE TEACHER’S ROLE STUDENT’S RESPONSE

1. Review -GOOD MORNING EVERYONE! Good morning sir

-Before I start the lesson I have a

question for you.

-What do you feel when there is -Scared

an earthquake? -Panic
-Cry

-Ok, so what do you fell when -Same answer

there is an Volcanic Eruption

-Ok class, this topic will help you

if an earthquake or volcanic
eruption occurs.

2. Motivation - So before we proceed to

our lesson, I will show
you some picture.

So class, what did you observe in - The impact of earthquake

this picture? - Before and after earthquake

-Ok, Very good class

-Next Picture.

-What did you observe in this picture?

- The impact of volcano
- Before and after the
-Very Good!
volcanic eruption
-So class, you already know what I'm
going to talk about.

So our lesson for today is Before, During

and After the Earthquake and Volcanic
Eruption.

B. EXPLORE

-First, I will discuss first the Earthquake

What to do: BEFORE, DURING, AFTER EARTHQUAKE

We have learned that Earthquake is the sudden shaking of the

earth’s surface.

Types of Earthquake:
Volcanic Earthquake

-it happens with a strong volcanic eruption.

Tectonic Earthquake:
-Cause by the movement of earth’s crust
- tectonic earthquake may occur above the ground or beneath the
ocean
- So let’s back to the question
What to do: BEFORE, DURING, AFTER EARTHQUAKE

BEFORE AN EARTHQUAKE
-So before an earthquake we should have Emergency plan
and Evacuation plan”

1. Evaluate your house or building structure. Check and

identify some potential source of hazards.
2. Familiarize and make plan of the routes you take on your
way out from your house or building in case of an
earthquake.
3. Secure fire extinguishers, first aid kits, alarm,
communication facilities, and some other things which be
useful and learn how to use it beforehand.
4. Prepare for an emergency plan on how to deal with the
disaster.
5. Stock some food packed, potable water, spare clothes,
Flashlights, whistles, radio, batteries and some other useful
things just in case for safe evacuation.
6. Conduct and participate in regular earthquake drills.

DURING AN EARTHQUAKE

1. STAY CALM.
2. Do not panic and run away from the house or building
where you are.

desk or anything where you may hide and protect yourself.
4. If you are outside, stay away from building or electric posts
or anything that might fall. Go to an open ground.
5. When you are residing near coastal place, be aware of
tsunamis that may occur.
AFTER AN EARTHQUAKE

1. When an earthquake is over, walk briskly to the nearest

emergency exit and find a safe place.
2. Be Aware on the aftershocks.
Aftershocks is a smaller earthquake that follows a larger
earthquake.
3. Check member of the family and seek help if someone is
missing.
4. If you are in your school, follow and listen to the instruction
of your teacher.
5. Check yourself and others from injuries; some water and
electrical lines for damages and any other thing that may
cause hazards.

So, are you still listening class?

-ok very good. So let’s proceed in volcanic eruption

What to do before, during and after volcanic eruption.

Before a volcanic eruption:

1. Be aware of any unusual volcanic activity. -yes

instructions.

-Ok class, we are done of our discussion I know you’ve

learned a lot.

Anyone who can summarize the lesson?

(The teacher will explain how important to prepare the “STUDENTS
Earthquakes and volcanic eruption) WILL RAISE
THEIR
HANDS”

2. APPLICATION (The teacher will ask to give example of how we prepare

the earthquake which he has not read yet)
“STUDENTS
WILL ANSWER
