INTRODUCTION

Skin is the largest organ of the body which makes up the outer covering of the living body. It consists
of multiple layers of the ectodermal tissues guarding the underlying muscles, bones, ligaments, and
internal organs. It also provides protection against microbes, heat, light and injury. A wound is created
when an injury to the normal structure and function of the skin occurs.

Turmeric a bright yellow aromatic powder obtained from the rhizome of a plant of the ginger family,
used for flavoring and coloring in Asian cooking and formerly as a fabric dye. Honey, a sweet, sticky
yellowish-brown fluid made by bees and other insects from nectar collected from flowers. The coconut
tree is a member of the palm tree family and the only known living species of the genus Cocos and have
a fruit called coconut. The term "coconut" can refer to the whole coconut palm, the seed, or the fruit,
which botanically is a drupe, not a nut. Coconut oil is the fatty oil obtained from the coconut and used in
candies and confections and in cosmetics.

Semi-solid dosage forms include ointments and creams. Ointments are preparations for external use,
intended for application to the skin. Typically, they have an oily or greasy consistency and can appear
“stiff” as they are applied to the skin. Ingredients of the ink can make it harmful, when it get swallowed
there is large probability it may get poisoned. Even though there have a lot of uses of turmeric, honey
and coconut oil in kitchen and in out daily activities, it was used for cooking only. The main purpose of
the researchers conduct study, to make it beneficial to the individual if it will be proven to be effective.
The researchers conducted this product in order to treat wounds faster and being safe of the use of
ointment when get swallowed.
Background of the study

Turmeric as an aromatic medicinal plant was known to Indians since ancient times. Many scientists
and historians argue that the South Asia is the original home of Turmeric, from there it might have
spread to countries in the South East Asia and pacific islands where Turmeric is cultivated. It was
recorded that turmeric was grown wildly in the forest regions of Java, Indonesia as early as 5th century
AD.Turmeric is an herbaceous perennial plant that grows up to 1meter tall with many branches with
yellow to orange, cylindrical, aromatic rhizomes. The leaves are alternate and arranged in two rows.
They are divided into leaf sheath, petiole, and leaf blade. From the leaf sheaths, a false stem is formed.
In Pakistan and Afghanistan, turmeric is used to cleanse wounds and stimulate their recovery by
applying it on a piece of burnt cloth that is placed over a wound.

Honey is a sweet liquid that made from a bee.One of the earliest evidence of honey harvesting is on a
rock painting dating back 8000 years, this one found in Valencia, Spain shows a honey seeker robbing a
wild bee colony.

Coconut palm is considered as a native of Malesia, a bio-geographical region that includes Southeast
Asia, Indonesia, Australia, New Guinea, and several Pacific Island groups. Coconut has been recorded in
archaeological excavations and epigraphic inscriptions, in Sanskrit scriptures of religious, agricultural,
and Ayurvedic importance, and in historical records as well as travelogues of visitors from China, Arab,
and Italy. Its usefulness and multiplicity of uses has earned it epithets like "Treeoflife", "Tree of heaven",
"Tree of abundance", and "Kalpavriksha " (a tree that provides all necessities of life). In addition to its
food value, it has health, medicinal, and cosmetic value.

Modern medicine has begun to recognize its importance, as indicated by the over 3000 publications
dealing with turmeric that came out within the last 25 years. This review first discusses in vitro studies
with turmeric, followed by animal studies, and finally studies carried out on humans.

Theoretical Framework
The first theory, turmeric extract. According to Dixit, Jain and Joshi (1988). Turmeric has natural
antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties. The powder can be sprinkled on the affected area to help it heal
faster. Our ancestors always suggest turmeric for burn, cut or infection over a pill. Turmeric is used as an
herbal medicine for rheumatoid arthritis, chronic anterior uveitis, conjunctivitis, skin cancer, small pox,
chicken pox, wound healing, urinary tract infections, and liver ailments.

Second theory Coconut Oil, according to Dr. Weston Price (1930). Coconut oil may promote wound
healing due to its high concentration of monolaurin, a fatty acid renowned for its antimicrobial effects. It
found that treating the wounds with virgin coconut oil speed up healing, improved antioxidant status
and increased levels of collagen, an important protein that aids in wound healing. Virgin coconut oil
when topically applied to wounds, promotes speedy healing, according to Verallo Rowell Dillague KM,
Syah-Tjundawan BS. Skin and Cancer Foundation, Dermatitis (2008) and Rachel Link (2017)

Third theory Honey, according to Edwar Fuentes Pérez. There is a lot of scientific evidence that
shows that honey allows complex wounds to heal, wounds are more likely to have multiple bacterial
strains living together inside something called a biofilm, which is a self-produced matrix of bacterial
slime. These types of wounds require strong topical antibiotics to treat. Researchers are finding that
honey is one of the best options. According to Carter, most antibiotics will slow down wound healing,
and they will cause cellular damage as well, whereas honey seems to actually kill the bacteria and
promote healing, he also emphasizes buying medical-grade honey, since it has been sterilized and is
FDA-approved.

Conceptual Framework

Input Process Output

 Clean the ingredients
and material needed like
 300 grams of Turmeric turmeric and small tube.  Turmeric ointment
 500 grams of Coconut  Boil ang grind turmeric  Heal wounds faster
Oil to come out the extract
 210 grams of Honey  Mix coconut oil with
 Small Tube turmeric extract and
honey
 Put the mixture to a
small tube
 Apply it into affcted
wounds after take a bath
or after washing the
wound. Apply it daily

Figure 1. Research Paradigm

The study entitled "Effectiveness of Using Ointment from Turmeric Extract as a Remedy on Open
Wounds." It shows three boxes which is Input-Process-Output (I-P-O). In the Input, the researchers
determined the ingredients and material in order to produce the output. Input includes the turmeric,
coconut oil, and honey and for material is small tube. The ingredients and material will undergo the
processes by cleaning the ingredients, boil, grind to come out the extract of turmeric, mixing the three
ingredients, put in a small tube, and apply it to the wounds. The input and process together can produce
the output which is the turmeric ointment, that can heal the wounds faster.

Statement of the Problem

In order to address the problem regarding the faster healing of a wound and to make it more easier
and effective, turmeric will be used for an ointment. The researchers will conduct this study to
determine if the turmeric is indeed can help to heal the wounds faster.

Furthermore, this study will focus to these following questions:

1. Can turmeric ointment do heal the open wounds faster? How long does it takes?

A. Weeks

B. Months

C. Year

2. Can the turmeric ointment be an effective treatment to open wounds, burns or scratches? Does it
help to prevent infections?

3. What are the effect of turmeric ointments in applying in open wounds?

Research Hypothesis

The researchers have the following assumptions:

Ho: There is no significant effect on the wound after it treated by turmeric ointment.

Ha: There is a significant effect on the wound after it treated by turmeric ointment.

Significance of the Study

This study will help the people to treat open wounds. This study focuses on treating and preventing
the infection on a damaged skin. This study also enable people to know the organic or herbal way to
treat wounds, and it can provide prevention to the infection of a wounds in the individual. The output of
this study can be used for curing the minor injuries like wounds. It also an antibacterial ointment to
prevent the infection and exterminate the bacteria and viruses that can cause a major effect. This study
