DRYING EXPERIMENTS

OBJECTIVE:

To determine the rate of drying of a given sample.

To determine the equilibrium moisture content of the sample.
To construct the drying curve at constant drying conditions.

MATERIALS AND APPARATUSES

 1 Kgs Sand or Limestone
 Stopwatch
 Drying Trays
 Weighing Scale

PROCEDURE:

1. Weigh enough amounts of dry sand and mix thoroughly with 100 mL of water.
2. Distribute this mixture evenly on a tray.
3. Make three replicates
4. Place the trays inside the dryer.
5. Heat to a constant temperature of 1100C.
6. Take the weight loss for the predetermined time interval and repeat the
process for successive time interval of 5 minutes until a constant weight is
attained.
7. Make three trials.
