The Liturgy of the Word

First reading
(Wis 12:13, 16-19)

A reading from the book of Wisdom.

THERE is no god besides you who have
the care of all, that you need show you
have not unjustly condemned.
For your might is the source of justice;
your mastery over all things makes you
lenient to all. For you show your might
when the perfection of your power is
disbelieved; and in those who know you,
you rebuke temerity.
But though you are master of might, you
judge with clemency, and with much
lenience you govern us; for power,
whenever you will, attends you.
And you taught your people, by these
deeds, that those who are just must be
kind; and you gave your children good

ground for hope that you would permit

repentance for their sins.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
(Ps 86)

LORD, YOU ARE GOOD AND

FORGIVING.
1. You, O Lord, are good and forgiving,/
abounding in kindness to all who call
upon you./ Hearken, O Lord, to my
prayer and attend to the sound of my
pleading.—(.R.)
2. All the nations you have made shall
come and worship you, O Lord,/ and
glorify your name./ For you are great, and
you do wondrous deeds; you alone are
God.—(R.)
3. You, O Lord, are a God merciful and
gracious,/ slow to anger, abounding in
kindness and fidelity./ Turn toward me,
and have pity on me;/ give your strength
to your servant.— (R.)

Second reading
(Rom 8:26-27)

A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the

Romans.

BROTHERS and sisters:

The Spirit comes to the aid of our
weakness; for we do not know how to pray
as we ought, but the Spirit himself
intercedes with inexpressible groanings.
And the one who searches hearts knows
what is the intention of the Spirit, because
he intercedes for the holy ones according
to God's will.

-The Word of the Lord-

All: Thanks be to God.

Gospel
(Mt 13:24-30)

Priest: The Lord be with you.

All: and with your Spirit.
Priest: A reading from the Holy Gospel
according to Matthew.
All: Glory to you, O Lord.
JESUS proposed another parable
to the crowds, saying:
"The kingdom of heaven may be
likened to a man who sowed good
seed in his field. While everyone
was asleep his enemy came and
sowed weeds all through the
wheat, and then went off.

When the crop grew and bore

fruit, the weeds appeared as well.
The slaves of the householder
came to him and said, 'Master,

Roman Missal: 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

did you not sow good seed in your

field? Where have the weeds
come from?' He answered, 'An
enemy has done this.' His slaves
said to him, 'Do you want us to go
and pull them up?'

He replied, 'No, if you pull up

the weeds you might uproot the
wheat along with them. Let them
grow together until harvest; then
at harvest time I will say to the
harvesters, "First collect the
weeds and tie them in bundles for
burning; but gather the wheat into
my barn."

-The Gospel of the Lord-

All: Praise to you, O Lord Jesus Christ.

Profession of Faith
Priest/ All:
I believe in one God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible
and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only
Begotten Son of God, born of the Father
before all ages. God from God, Light from
Light, true God from true God, begotten, not
made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made. For us men
and for our salvation he came down from
heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the
Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius
Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day in accordance
with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living
and the dead and his kingdom will have no
end.

11
abeglish9705@gmail.com
Roman Missal: 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver

of life, who proceeds from the Father and the
Son, who with the Father and the Son is
adored and glorified, who has spoken through
the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic
Church. I confess one Baptism for the
forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the
resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.

Priest:
God has sown his word in our hearts
so that we may grow faithful in our
Christian discipleship. With
confidence, let us call out to the
Father:
FATHER, PERFECT US IN YOUR
LOVE.
1. May the Church become more fully
conscious of her mission as evangelizer
of the word so that people may be ed to
renewal and conversion. We pray.
2. May the government leaders reject the
culture of death and revenge by
tempering their sense of justice with
mercy and compassion. We pray.
3. May Family members nourish
themselves with daily meditation on
your word and constant acts of Charity.
We pray.
4. May our beloved dead see the light of
your eternal embrace and be given us
sure hope of the resurrection. We pray.

brought to completion varied offerings
of the law, accept, we pray, this sacrifice

All: We lift them up to the Lord.

All: It is right and just.
Priest:

It is truly right and just, our

duty and our salvation, always
and everywhere to give you
thanks, Lord, Holy Father,
almighty and eternal God.
For in you we live and move
and have our being, and while
in this body we not only
experience the daily effects of
your care, but even now possess
the pledge of life eternal.
For, having received the first
fruits of the Spirit, through
whom you raised up Jesus from
the dead, we hope for an

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II
The Priest, with hands extended, says:

Y ou are indeed Holy, O Lord, the

fount of all holiness.
17
abeglish9705@gmail.com
Roman Missal: 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

He joins his hands and, holding them extended over the offerings, says:

ake holy, therefore, these gifts, we

pray, by sending down your Spirit upon
them like the dewfall,
He joins his hands and makes the Sign of the Cross once over the bread and the
chalice together, saying:

so that they may become for us the

Body and  Blood of our Lord, Jesus
Christ.
He joins his hands.
In the formulas that follow, the words of the Lord should be pronounced clearly and
distinctly, as the nature of these words requires.

At the time he was betrayed and

entered willingly into his Passion,
He takes the bread and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:

he took bread and, giving thanks,

broke it, and gave it to his disciples,
saying:
He bows slightly.

T AKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF

IT, FOR THIS IS MY BODY, WHICH
WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
He shows the consecrated host to the people, places it again on the paten, and
genuflects in adoration.

18
abeglish9705@gmail.com
Roman Missal: 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

After this, he continues:

In a similar way, when supper was

ended,
He takes the chalice and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:

he took the chalice and, once more

giving thanks, he gave it to his
disciples, saying:
He bows slightly.

T AKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK

FROM IT, FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF
MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL
COVENANT, WHICH WILL BE POURED
OUT FOR YOU AND FOR MANY FOR
THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.
DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.
He shows the chalice to the people, places it on the corporal, and genuflects in
adoration.
Then he says:

The mystery of faith.

All:

herefore, as we celebrate the

memorial of his Death and

the Bread of life and the Chalice of
salvation, giving thanks that you have
held us worthy to be in your presence
and minister to you.

Humbly we pray that, partaking of the

Body and Blood of Christ, we may be
gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.

Remember, Lord, your Church, spread

throughout the world, and bring her to
the fullness of charity, together with
Francis our Pope and David William.
our Bishop and all the clergy.

Remember also our brothers and

sisters who have fallen asleep in the
hope of the resurrection, and all who
have died in your mercy:

face. Have mercy on us all, we pray,

Mother of God, with St. Joseph her
most chaste spouse with the blessed
Apostles, St. Ignatius and all the
Saints who have pleased you
throughout the ages, we may merit to
be coheirs to eternal life, and may
praise and glorify you
through your Son, Jesus Christ.
He takes the chalice and the paten with the host and raising both, he says:

T HROUGH HIM, AND WITH HIM,

AND IN HIM, O GOD, ALMIGHTY
FATHER,
IN THE UNITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT,
ALL GLORY AND HONOR IS YOURS, FOR
EVER AND EVER.

All: Amen
