Activity 2: Evaluating a Multimodal Material

Watch the video and evaluate its multimodal content in terms of the following
criteria.

1. Clarity of Goal

The clarity of goal was to let the people, with or without the disease, know we can
help people with TB fight their battles, together and as one. The video in general was able
to send that message in a clear and creative way, not less than how I see it.

2. Synthesis of Ideas

The idea that we are all together in fighting the disease leaves a positive impact
on the community. The delivery of the idea was also brilliant. As people shouted Toto’s
name one after another, it symbolized the role of our cooperation and teamwork in the
community to help those who need to be. The delivery of the message was simple but I
know that it, and will instill hope in whoever watched or will watch it.

3. Context of Presentation

As a Filipino citizen, I can easily relate to the video campaign. I can say that every
other Filipino who would watch it will also easily grasp its context. It presented our culture
and used it in a sense that will enhance the delivery of the message. However, I’m not
sure if that will also be the case with international or foreign audiences. Needless to say,
it’s pretty obvious that the target audience of the video was natives and I think it really
served its purpose.

4. Start and End

At first when I was watching the video “Tuberculosis Campaign Ad by World

Vision”, I couldn’t find its relation to tuberculosis. However, as the video proceeded and
came to an end, it became clear that together, we can help each other to win the fight
against the infectious disease.
5. Quality of Video

Although the quality of the video resolution itself is not the best at 240 px, the
quality of the message itself the video brings was, for me, excellent. It moved me and I’m
pretty sure that it will also move and inspire others especially those with the disease.

6. Transitions

Personally, even though the transitions used was not cutting-edge, it still served
its purpose. As an audience, it effectively told the story as the clips progressed. Moreover,
I think that it is already good as it is and it doesn’t require high-end video editing as, I
have said earlier, efficiently served its purpose.

7. Audio

I can say that the audio of the video campaign was effectively used. The
background music was a bit upbeat and somehow cinematic. Combined with the
dialogues, it left an interesting impression making me want to wait for more as the video
progressed.

8. Creativity

As per the video’s creativity, I can say that whoever produced or directed it was
able to pique my interest. As those in the neighborhood shouted “Toto” one after another,
I knew that I had to wait and stick for the ending to know the message. I also think that
that is how campaign advertisement should work – to catch people’s interest and send a
message to either inform or persuade.
