management purposes. Specify the information that can be obtained giving
actual examples in a typical manufacturing setting.
2. Give reasons and detail the type of work for which CNC machines are not
economically suited.
3. Highlight any safety problems related to the actual running of CNC machines.
4. What factors should be considered when designating the different addresses used
for axis movement on NC machines?
5. Detail the different stages in the production of a component on CNC machines.
Explain why each stage is necessary.
6. What problems could arise due to the high rates of material removal that are
possible on NC machines?
7. In regard to the structure of part programs, detail eight frequently used preparatory
functions, explaining the reason for applications. Explain the purpose of an end
block character in a part program.
8. What character is generally used as an end of a block character? What other
character may be used?
9. Discuss the various approaches used in creating part programs, giving a valuation
of each method as to its advantages and disadvantages
10. What is the difference in the movement that results when moving from one set
of X, Υ, Ζ coordinates to another set of Χ, Υ, Ζ coordinates when in:

(a) positioning mode

(b) linear interpolation mode?
