FIELD VISIT REPORT AT KHULNA DIVISION: FEBRUARY 2022

Purpose/Objective:

The main purpose of this field visit was to:

• Understand the WTP based water business model in coastal areas.


• Searching for water sources (ground water & surface water).
• Searching potential entrepreneurs for DMDP project.
• Provide necessary technical guidance to the entrepreneurs (in detail Grundfos
technology, pumps, service efficiency & effectiveness align with the business model).
• Receive specific requirements from the potential entrepreneurs.
• Engaging commercial partner’s representative to check the feasibility of the proposed
location in terms of Grundfos/Hydro Technological solutions.
• Staff orientation on DMDP Technological solutions, marketing strategy and
entrepreneur mobilization tactics.
• Meeting with the field staffs on project progress tracking, set quarterly targets &
knowledge sharing.

➢ Water is available in this lake all around the year except April
and May.
➢ During the monsoon, the source of the RAW water is
contained saltiness.
➢ The depth of water is around 4 feet in the dry season.

350 feet.
➢ During the monsoon, the source water is contained saltiness.

➢ Preferred sustainable and cost-effective technology.

➢ Monthly electricity cost in winter season 6500 tk. and during
summer season its cost 12000 tk.
➢ The selling price is 10-20 tk. per 20-liter jar bottle.

Observation ➢ Already doing the WTPs business in the Nalta, Sathkhira area.
➢ Have an existing WTP capacity of 6000 GPD but due to mechanical
maintenance over the year capacity has been decreased.
➢ Required to increase the existing capacity as a standby and
continuous production.
➢ Existing WTP has lots of difficulties due to the saltiness (High TDS)
of the RAW water.
➢ Especially asking for sustainable machinery and requirement which
can resist the saltiness of the water.
➢ Having lots of troubleshooting due to high TDS in the water.
➢ They may have done the project on their existing land, which is near
to the roadside and available electricity connection.
➢ TDS of water goes high up to 2000- 3000 ppm all around the year.
➢ Preferred sustainable, cost-effective, and most updated
technology.
➢ Positive to purchase the Grundfos technology and asking to
maintain the supply chain as required on time.

Objectives EC-100, Surface Water Treatment Plant Site observation, Technical
difficulties, and Troubleshooting of the treatment plant.
Discussion Notes ➢ Operation procedure and manual of the EC-100.
➢ Discuss the process difficulties like Jambo filter blockage, 0.45
Micron Filter become greenish after 10 to 15 days and need to
change frequently.
➢ The chlorine dosing pump not working functionally.
➢ Slow sand filtration unit installation.
Observation ➢ As discussed with the team, we think the pretreatment unit is not
properly functional.
➢ If the proper pretreatment can be done there can be an increase in
the efficiency of the EC-100.
➢ Sludge isn’t settling at the Tube Settler Tank (Conical Tank).
➢ Electrode can’t generate the required clog in the process.
➢ The settling velocity of the clog isn’t enough for the existing surface
area and size of the clogs that’s why it’s not settling at the bottom.
➢ To settle the clog generate from Electrode, Alum or Polymer
reagent can be used from larger clusters and it helps to settle the
clogs.
➢ Coagulants and flocculation processes are used to remove
colloidal impurities: suspended particles such as bacteria, clay,
silts, and organic matter from the contaminated water.
➢ Chlorine dosing system need to analyze and improve.
