The simple aspect of verbs involves three tenses: simple present, simple past,
and simple future tense.
• The simple present tense is used to describe actions being done in the
present.
• The simple past tense is used to describe actions that are already done.
• The simple future tense is used to describe actions that will just happen
in the future.

Perfect Tense
This tense of the verb is used to indicate a completed, or "perfected," action or
condition. There are three perfect tenses: present perfect, past perfect, and future
perfect.
Verbs in the perfect form use "have" or "had" + the past participle.
Present Perfect: I have finished my homework already.
Past Perfect: He had watched TV before he played basketball.
Future Perfect: She will have finished her task by the time her parents return.
Present Perfect Tense
➢ action that started in the past and continues to the present
➢ action that has just been finished at the time of speaking
➢ action that happened recently at an indefinite time
The verb in the present perfect tense is formed by:
➢ has or have + past participle of the verb
➢ has or have + been + past participle
Some time expressions used to indicate present perfect tense are: since last, for,
already, just, yet, and ever since.
Examples:
1. I have just finished the lesson.
2. My cousin has submitted his work already.
Past Perfect Tense
➢ expresses action that started and ended before another past action
➢ the verb is formed with the helping verb had and the past participle of the
verb
Examples:

1. The sun had set when we finished our work.
2. The club members had chosen their before the meeting broke up.

Future Perfect Tense
➢ expresses future action that will be completed before another future action.
➢ the verb is formed with the helping verb shall have or will have and the past
participle.
Examples:

1. Please hurry. The boat shall have left by the time we reach the pier.
2. Aren’t all the participants here yet? before they arrive.
The program shall have begun

Verbs can appear in any of the three perfect tenses: present perfect, past perfect, and
future perfect.
➢ Present Perfect Tense indicates action that started in the past and continues to
present, action that has just been finished at the time of speaking, and action
that happened recently at an indefinite time.
➢ Past Perfect Tense indicates action that started and ended before another past
action.
➢ Future Perfect Tense indicates future action that will be completed before
another future action.
