SHORT DISCUSSION

Our lesson for this week is about the simple present, past
and future forms of the verb. Are you ready to learn?
2
Verbs are words that express action or state of being. It has
three simple forms - present, past and future.
 The present tense of the verb shows an action done in the present
time. It is also used to state a fact. In addition, it expresses an action or
a state of being that is done habitually or regularly.
The base form of the verb (verb without -s) is used when the
subject is plural or with the pronouns I and You.
The –s or –es form of the verb is used when the subject is singular
or with the singular pronouns, he, she, and it.
 The past tense of the verb expresses an action that is done in the past.
Words and phrases like yesterday, last year, last month, last week
and long time ago are used to tell past time.
The past simple is usually formed by adding d or ed to the
base form of the verb. While irregular verbs form their past tense by
changing their spelling.
 The future tense of the verb indicates an action that will take place in
the future. Sentences that show action in the future have a main verb
preceded by the helping verb will or shall.

GENERALIZATIO
N

The present tense is used to tell habitual, repeated or

regular actions. Use the –s form of the verb (a verb that ends
in –s) with singular subjects. Use the simple form of the
verb with plural subjects and the pronoun I.
An action that happened in the past is called past tense.
To change regular verbs to the past tense, we add –d or –ed
to the present tense form. The last letter of some regular
verbs is doubled before adding -ed.
Use shall or will + the simple form of the verb to tell
future tense.
