Introductory Message

For the facilitator:

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and evaluated by the


Development and Quality Assurance Teams of SDO TAPAT to assist you in helping the
learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their
personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.

As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module. You
also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage their
own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners as
they do the tasks included in the module.

For the learner:

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for
guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to
process the contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.

The following are some reminders in using this module:

Verbs are words that indicate action. It also indicates the existence of a state or
condition.

Aspects/ Tense refers to time as in present, past, and future

S-Form of the verb - verb with s Example: says, plays, sings, runs
Verbs with S or S-form are used for singular subject.

Base form - the form listed in the dictionary; it is without s


Example: say, play, sing, run
Verbs without -S or base form are used for plural subject.

Subject = is the topic of the sentence

I. THE PRESENT ASPECTS OF VERB

A. Present Aspect of Verb


is used to state definitions, fact and opinion and habitual action
Example:
1. The Philippines is an archipelago. (Singular Subject; it used the
verb “is”; the sentence states definition)
2. The Sun and the stars are part of the milky way. (Plural Subject; it
used the verb “are”; the sentence states fact.)

3. The mayor of Taguig provides school supplies every year. (Singular Subject;
it used the S-form of verb “provide” the sentence shows habitual action.)

4. The mayors in NCR meet every month to discuss important issues.


Plural subject; it used the base form of verb “meet”; the sentence indicates
habitual action.)

B. Past Aspect of Verb


 This aspect of verb indicates that the action has been completed in the past.
 Both singular and plural subject used the past tense of the verb.

3. She was my classmate before.
4. Shiela and Joy were childhood friends.

C. Future Aspect of Verb


 This aspect of verb indicates action that is about to happen in the future
 Both singular and plural subject: Add will/shall before the base form of the
verb
Example:
1. She will come here tomorrow.
2. They will visit me next year.
3. You shall bring your umbrella this afternoon, it may rain
4. They shall come early tonight late comers are not allowed.

II. THE PROGRESSIVE ASPECTS OF VERB


Progressive Aspect of verb indicates action that is still happening.

A. Present Progressive
The present progressive or present continuous form is used when talking
about an action or event that is going on or happening at the moment.
Singular subject: Use “is + verb with -ing”.
Example: The boy is crying near the gate at the moment.
Plural Subject: Use “are + verb with -ing”.
Example: The girls are cleaning their art material now at the canteen.

Note: when to use the Present Progressive Aspect?


a. It is use to show an activity in progress
Example: The boys are swimming at the pool now.
b. It is use to show temporary situation
Example: I am staying with my sister.

C. Past Progressive
Past Progressive Aspect of Verb tells or indicates that something was going
on at a certain time in the past.
Singular Subject: Use “ was + verb with -ing”
Example: My mom was cooking dinner when I arrived home last night.
Plural subject: Use “were + verb with -ing”
Example: The same time today last year, me and my friends were competing
for the ASEAN game.

D. Future Progressive 6
It indicates continuing action, something that will be happening, going on, at
some point in the future.

This aspect is formed with the modal "will" + "be," verb with an -ing for both
singular and plural subject.
Example:
My mom will be spending her vacation abroad this coming summer.
The members of the K-Pop boy band will be coming here next month.

 There are two types of conjunctions. These are coordinating conjunctions and
subordinating conjunctions.
Coordinating Conjunctions join equal words, phrases, and clauses.
Subordinating Conjunctions connect the dependent clause to an independent
clause.
For, and, but, or, yet, and so are examples of coordinating conjunctions.
Because, so that, unless, despite, even, although, and more are examples of
subordinating conjunctions.
