Detailed Lesson Plan in English VI

(Carrousel Brainstorming)

I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to;


a. Identified the present tense of verbs in a sentence:
b. Use simple present tense of verbs in a sentence; and
c. Explain and discuss the importance of the simple present tense.

II. Subject Matter: Simple Present Tense of the Verb

III. Procedure
A. Preparatory Activity

1. Drill
Good morning class!
This morning we will have a game. This game is called “Charades”.
The class will be divided into 2 groups. On the board there are numbers.
Each number contain a word that they should act. Each group must have a
representative who will choose a number from 1-10, while someone is acting
the word, the rest of the members should guess the act. Each will be given
30 seconds to guess the correct word. The group who got the higher score
will be the winner.

B. Developmental Activity
1. Presentation
This morning we will learn about the Simple Present Tense of the
Verb. It expresses habitual action, present state or condition, future
action and general truths or facts.

a. Setting of Standard
But before that, what should a good pupil do while the teacher
is talking here in front?
How about if there are activities given by the teacher?

Can I expect that from you?
2. Activity
I will group you into 3 groups. The group PAST, PRESENT and
FUTURE. All you have to do is to complete each sentence with the
correct form of the verb. The first group who could finish the activity
will be the winner.

1. Our neighbors clean our purok every Sunday afternoon.


2. The weather today is cool.
3. The train leaves at 8:30 a.m.
4. The moon shines at night.
5. Meteorology deals with the study of the weather.

What is the verb in the sentence?
Very good, the word clean is the verb.
The verb in this sentence is in the Simple Present Tense,
because it expresses a habitual action or repeated action.
Habitual Action – uses to refer to the repeated or regular
actions, and it is usually used with adverbs and time expression.
I have here another examples
Jackie’s puppies sleep peacefully every night.
My little sister says a prayer before sleeping.
The expressions every night, before sleeping, and every Sunday afternoon are
time indicators that signal habitual action.

The weather today is cool.
What is the verb in the sentence?
The verb in the sentence is in the Simple Present Tense, because it uses to
express the present condition or state of the subject.
Present state or condition – use verb to express the present condition or state
of the subject.

What is the verb in the sentence?
The verb in this sentence is in the Simple Present Tense,
because it expresses a future action.
Future Action – we use verb to express the action that is
happening in the near future.
Examples:
The party starts in few minutes.
The plane arrives at 10 p.m.

The moon shines at night.
What is the verb in the sentence?
The verb in this sentence is in the Simple Present Tense,
because it expresses general truth or facts.
General Truth or Facts – we use verb to express the truth or
fact information about the subject
Examples:
The earth goes around the sun.
El Nińo and La Nińa differ from each other.

Let’s read the fifth sentence.


Meteorology deals with the study of the weather.
What is the verb in the sentence?
The verb in this sentence is in the Simple Present Tense,
because it expresses definition.
Examples:
Drought refers to a long period of dry weather, with little or no rain at all.
4. Abstraction

Class, why do you think knowing the simple present tense of


the verb is important to us?
It is important for us to know the simple present tense of the
verbs so that we will be able to compose correct grammar in speaking
or writing.
Class, now that you already know the uses of Simple Present
Tense. This time, let’s have another game. With the same group all
you have to do is to roll the cube. Just like playing a dice, using this
Verb Cube, you are going to roll the cube. The verb that may appear
on the top side of the cube is the verb that you are going to construct
a sentence form and use the simple present tense of the verb in the
sentence. Each member of the group must participate and roll the
cube until all the members are done. The first group who can finish it
first and got the correct sentence with the use of simple present tense
of the verb will be the winner.
