simple tense, progressive tense, and perfect tense. Your previous lesson before was
about simple tense which has three simple tenses: simple present, simple past and
simple future.
2. Motivation
What can you say about the picture? (Picture showing the past, present, and future
actions)
C. Presentation of the lesson
“Our lesson for today is about Progressive Tense. The progressive form is a verb tense
used to show an ongoing action in progress at some point in time. It shows an action still
in progress. Verbs can appear in any one of the three progressive tenses: present
progressive, past progressive, and future progressive.”

D. Discussion
The teacher will ask “Who can give me an example of present progressive, past
progressive, and future progressive tense?” one by one. Write the example on the
board and discuss with class the functions of the three tenses in progressive form.

E. Generalization
The verbs in the progressive form use a form of “to be” + the present participle (an –ing
verb). (It is the form off the helping verb that indicates the tense.)

Present Progressive Tense expresses an action that is going on at the moment.

Past Progressive Tense expresses the earlier of two past actions. The past continuous
action introduced by while consisting of was/were + an ing verb is the past progressive
tense.
Future Progressive Tense expresses an activity that will occur before another activity in
the future with emphasis in the continuity of the action.
