What have you noticed to the underlined words?

Works, worked, will work

These words are called verbs. They express actions


that take place in different periods such as present, past
and future tenses of verbs. These tenses of verbs are
necessary to show the differences as to when actions
happen.
The underlined words in the following sentences are verbs .
Read them.

1.Without mangroves, coastlines erode and villages become


prone to typhoons and tsunamis

2. Mangroves serve as natural filters against pollution

3. A law calls for fishponds to have greenbelts

-s form of a verb is the present tense singular. Singular verbs end in s.

-The base form is called the plural verb. Plural verbs do not end in -s
The following sentences are examples of simple present tense .
1.The earth revolves around the sun.
(The sentence describes a fact.The verb should be in present tense.
It also has a singular subject which is the earth so we are going to
use the s form of the verb )
2. Liza walks to school every morning.
(The sentence describes a habitual action because of the word
everyday. It has a singular subject “Liza”)

3. They spend their vacation in Boracay every year.


(The sentence describes a habitual action because of the word
every year. It has a plural subject “They”)
Write the correct form of the verb "To be" in present tense.
 
Use I for the pronoun I.

The verbs in column A are The verbs in column B are


said to be regular verbs irregular verbs because they

When do we use simple past tense of the verb?
The following sentences are examples of simple past tense.
 
1.The children watched a horror film last night.
(This sentence happened in the past. That’s why we need to add
a suffix -ed to the verb )

2.It rained almost every week last month.


(This sentence happened in the past because of the adverbial
phrase--’last month’. Simply add ed to form the simple past tense )
 
3.Typhoon Yolanda greatly damaged many homes and buildings in
Tacloban two years ago.
( This sentence happened in the past because of the adverbial
phrase--’two years ago’. Simply add d to form the simple past tense )
Complete each sentence with the simple past tense of
the irregular verb in the parentheses.

REMEMBER
The past tense of a verb is used in the sentence
if the action already happened sometime in the
past.
 
For the regular verbs, the past tense is formed
by adding the suffix –ed.
 
However, the past tense form of the irregular
verbs can be formed in different ways.
Sometimes, it changes the whole word itself.

In Simple Aspect of the verb, we also have the Simple
future tense.

Everybody including your parents will
see him at the school at 2:00 o’clock
in the afternoon.

How are the verbs used? In what forms are they written?
 
The phases:
Will + simple form of the verb
Shall + simple form of the verb
 are used to indicate an act or event that will happen in
the future.
When do we use simple future tense of the verb?
The following sentences are examples of simple future
tense.
 
1. They will celebrate the World Children’s Day on
November 20,2022.
2. I will attend the mass next Sunday.
3. We are going to conduct a Tree Planting activity next
week.
4.We shall discuss this topic tomorrow.
5. I shall write a letter to my supervisor.
 The future tense of a verb can be formed by only
adding shall or will before the verb. This form of the
verb is used when the action is to take place in the
future.
 
 Shall is used for pronouns I and We. It may also used
to make advises
