HUM01: ARTS APPRECIATION

EXPLANATORY NOTE

ALL: (SONG) Iti tyempo iti gaaw, ken rabii, a nalinna-aw, intanto a dua a kas natarnaw,
agkanta igid diay baybay!

RAIAN: Currimao. A town where fishing is the chief industry. It has been a testament to
hard work, resilience, and endurance that is espoused by the town’s fisherfolks. Dinaklisan
highlights the role of the people of Currimao who inspire the whole community as they
altogether defy the law of the seas.

JUSTINE: Moreover, it sheds light on the natural bounties that the coastal municipality is
blessed with, and a time to bond together with the community, thankful not only for
material blessings but also for social ties that strengthen the people in times of crisis.

LIEZEL: Through time, the people of Currimao have redefined the meaning of panagdaklis
– progress and growth, including the vital aspect of environmental preservation and
conservation, especially with both livelihood and tourism being dependent on our coast and
our ocean.

JOANA: A lot of you are obviously wondering why we chose this kind of art. An art that
made up of karton, bamboo sticks, covered by Aruo, Coconut skin and most especially a lot
of PATIENCE.

RAIAN: The materials needed to accomplish this one is the Aruo collected with patience at
the MMSU-College of Aquatic Sciences and Applied Technology located at Currimao and
some parts of Barangay Bimmanga. This Aruo symbolizes the place where there’s a massive
logging of pine trees which they utilize it in building solar powerplants. May this also be an
advocacy that this Aruo or pine trees are also part of the people’s identity in the place.

JUSTINE: When you visit the place and given the opportunity to look at a “Biray” you can’t
see sail on the boat. However, this sail or layag symbolizes equilibrium that no matter what
challenges may come, we must learn to rise and conquer it. Just like the Ilocanos, we are
RESILIENT. Layag also symbolizes direction. That life may be hard to decide sometimes, we
must always choose to be happy and choose whatever the best for you and best for the
other people.
