INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEANUP

The day is the world's largest volunteer day to protect our environment. Last September
28, 2019, volunteers from all over the world will do their part to clean local beaches, rivers,
creeks and parks. An event called International Coastal Cleanup was held and participated by
various organizations including Supreme Student Government (SSG), YES-O, Red Cross Youth,
CAT officers and members and other students, advisers; teachers of the said organizations of
Aringay National High School. It is one of the largest international volunteer events that happen
every year. The purpose of the cleanup is to engage people around the world to remove trash and
debris from beaches and waterways, to identify the sources of the litter, and to change the
behaviors that cause pollution. All of the participants were gathered in Brgy. Samara at the front
of the Barangay Hall before they will move to Samara Beach where they were assigned to clean,
the cleanup starts around 6 to 6:30 o’clock in the morning.

Students of Aringay National High School was unite by this event, we clean the
shorelines for at least 3 hours and for that short time that we clean Samara Beach’s shoreline we
gathered a lot of sack of trash including mostly plastics, cloth, dry leaves and sanitary stuffs and
other biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. We know that trash causes countless impacts
to people, water quality, marine wildlife and the primary source of water pollution, but because
of the help of some agencies, and us we could say that nothing is impossible. This event was a
great success for us as a group and as an individual itself, it ended with a peaceful mind and big
smile even though we’re tired because of picking trash and it is also sunny though, students bring
their own cap and umbrella.

Therefore, all of us should be responsible in throwing our trash or if you see a trash
simply pick it and put it in a proper trash can whether it is biodegradable, non-biodegradable and
recyclable. We should also respect our nature; we must protect it and keep our environment clean
and green. We’re also helping ourselves through this because we also need Mother Earth in our
daily lives. Hence, even if it is not compulsory we must have the initiative in helping our
shorelines to become clean and because of it we can save lot of marine lives. Without them we
are nothing, we will never exist in this world; we need to use our knowledge not just for our own
sake but for everyone’s advancement. Though all of us should unite in protecting, keeping our
mother nature clean and green; caring of it.
