Intro:

One of the most serious environmental challenges in the Philippines is improper waste disposal. It
resulted in more serious issues that harm not just the environment but also people's health and lives.

Ocean pollution manifests itself in a variety of ways, but one of the most significant concerns harming
the oceans is marine dumping. Marine dumping has the potential to harm or degrade vital habitats for
aquatic animals, as well as create coastal erosion and sedimentation, all of which have an impact on the
marine environment's health and production.

In Barangay Abanico, Yacht and Club Marine, Puerto Princesa City, this is a concern. People in that
neighborhood discard garbage improperly. It is a serious problem that must be handled, or it will
continue to be a problem not only in that area, but also in our country in the next years.

Chosen Sustainable Goal:

The ocean is at the heart of the global processes that keep the Earth livable for humans. The sea
provides and regulates our rainfall, drinking water, weather, climate, coastlines, much of our food, and
even the oxygen in the air we breathe. However, due to pollution, coastal waters are currently
deteriorating, and ocean acidification is having a negative impact on ecosystems and biodiversity. Small-
scale fisheries are also suffering as a result of this.

We chose goal number 14: Life Below Water because we are concerned about water pollution. This
goal strives to safeguard and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources, as well as to
avoid and substantially reduce marine pollution of all kinds, particularly from land-based activities.

Description of the Prjct:

Foremost, the project we want to put into action is "saving the ocean program: stop plastic pollution" In
this program, we will be implementing certain activities that will help us resolved or lessen the research
problem, such as performing a relevant announcement and reminder regarding the significance of the
ocean in the selected venue near the sea, Barangay, Abanico Road which will be held every end of the
week. We’ll be reminding multiple residents that they must protect and take care of their ocean, its
importance and that it’ll have an impact to them, if they just ignored it, in that particular way, we can
encourage them to help us make the ocean recover into much better condition again. Also, to protect
the life below water and to maintain the cleanliness as well. We can possibly provide fliers too, which
indicates the facts about the ocean as well as our program’s goals and upcoming events/activities.
Additionally, we’ll be also implementing an activity of weekly cleaning of the coast and ocean so that it’ll
lessen the litters that might affect the life below water. We highly encourage every individual near the
ocean to join our program so that, it’ll be more convenient and easier for us to make the ocean recover
and improve even more better. It’s our program’s mission is to eliminate the unsorted, low value plastics
that cannot be economically recycled that’s entangling the life below water. Our sea is the great unifier,
man’s only hope. We must protect them at all cost.
Beneficiaries of the Prjct:

The ocean is crucial to all Filipinos, to all individuals. It helps to keep the climate stable, store carbon,
and produce the oxygen we breathe. It brings humans joy, wonder, and countless of other spiritual and
mental benefits. It also provides food, jobs, and recreation for our communities.

Our project will benefit people of Barangay, Abanico in Puerto Princesa City. When the inhabitants of
Barangay Abanico learn to conserve the ocean, their community will soon be garbage-free, thanks to
our programme. They will reap the benefits of proper trash disposal and segregation if they learn to
do so. They can get more seafood from the ocean, no nasty odor or polluted water, and will also be
protected from bacterial diseases. Marine animals in the vicinity will also benefit from the clean
environment.

Agencies to be involved:

DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources) is the agency that is responsible of water
pollution. it encourages pollution prevention and waste reduction at the source, and it calls for the
use of economic incentives as well as public disclosure to ensure compliance. Through continuous
massive clean-up, the DENR aims to improve the water quality of bays and other critical water bodies
such as lakes and rivers. Also Barangay Officials could help us in implementing and funding our
project.

Additional info:

The moment for action has arrived- the rate of change in the ocean tells us there’s no time to waste.
Changes are happening in our lifetime. We can and we must correct course now. Tomorrow might be
too late.

Together we can make the difference; together we can save our beautiful, pristine, awesome, unique
blue planet and let the next generations enjoy it!

Preserve nature, produce in a sustainable way and consume wisely.
