WATER
• SDG GOAL 14
• World contain 70% of water
• OBJECTIVEOF THE GOAL:
• Conserve and sustainably use the
oceans seas and marine
resources for sustainable
development
• they provide water food and help
regulate the weather.
• 2.6 Billion people rely on sea food
ISSUES AND IT’S CAUSES
CHEMICAL POLLUTION
 There have been many disastrous chemical spills at sea and from industry which effect the sea
environment.
PLASTIC POLLUTION
 At least 14 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean every year.
OIL SPILL
 An escape of oil into the sea or other body of water.
SEWAGE
 More than 80 percent of waste water resulting from human activities is discharged into rivers or
sea without any pollution removal.
MARINE TRANSPOTATION
 Bigger Ships dump oil into the sea during traveling.
EFFECTS ON ENVOIRMENT
 Loss of aquatic life.
 It disturbs food chain
 Increased rate of waterborne diseases like hepatitis, typhoid etc.
 Chemical waste make water poisonous which is harmful for every living being.
 Carbon emissions from human activities are causing ocean warming,
acidification and oxygen loss.
 Enrichment of water with inorganic nutrients nitrate and phosphate is called
Eutrophication. Found by Divers in the Mediterranean Sea

 Organic pollutants in water facilitate the growth of germs such polluted water
cause epidemics. E.G Cholera etc.
 The issue of temperature changes in the water caused by carbon dioxide
accumulation, which leads to the build-up of toxins, which affects aquatic life.
 Mining activities on ocean is such as drilling and deposit the minerals can be
unfit for marine life
STEPS TAKEN BY GOVERNMENT:
 Application of “Clean Technology” at the industrial units.
 Segregate sewage lines to avoid.
 Reducing bycatch in high seas.
 Marine protected area is introduced in Pakistan.
 Broadening knowledge based on habitats and critical resources.
 Global strategies for conservation of sharks and rays.
 Marine turtle conservation program.
 Identification of the Ecologically and Biologically Significant Areas (EBSA).
 Pakistan navy aims 2 million mangroves tree at sea side.
 Trash bin introduced at the sea side.
 Treatment plants for municipal and industrial effluents before disposal to water bodies.
WHAT WE CAN DO?
 Educate ourself about marine life.
 Demand plastic free alternative.
 Support organizations addressing plastic pollution.
 Reduce carbon footprints and Stop the Problem of Ocean Acidification.
 Influence to change in our community.
 Volunteer for the programs which bring the change in community.
 Conserve water and reduce runoff.
 Talk to government representative or lawmaker for introduce new laws about ocean safety.
 Ocean harming product For example , jewelry made with turtle shell etc.
 Participate In (or Organize) a Beach or River Cleanup.
