Session 1
Overview
This session will introduce you to some key interface elements and features of MS Word 2016.
You will use the file named Session 1.docx and complete the tasks given below.
Task 1
Understand the purpose of style and apply Title style on the title of the document.
Apply Heading 1 style on main headings: Soaring, Launch Methods, Types of Gliders, Gliding
Terminology, More Gliding Terminology, Gliding Emergencies and Modern Gliders
Apply Heading 2 style on subheadings: Thermals, Ridge Lift and Wave Lift
Hint: You may use Find feature available on Edit menu to locate the headings.
Task 2
Note that paragraphs of the document have styles different than the headings and title. Remove
the style from the second paragraph of the document by using Clear All Formatting button in
the Font group on the Home tab. What style does it have now?
Note that the default style is always Normal.
Task 3
We can modify the styles if we want them to fit our unique taste. Right click on the Normal style
and modify it to change the font to Arial, size to 11, alignment to Justify, and choose the colour
you like.
Task 4
Adjust line spacing of the first paragraph to 1.15 by using the Line and Paragraph Spacing
button in the Paragraph group.
Now let us change the line spacing of the whole document. How can that be done? Let us do it
by modifying the spacing for Normal style. After right clicking on the style and choosing
Modify, we need to select Format and then Paragraph.
Task 5
Styles are defined in themes. Using the Design tab, explore themes and style sets by applying
them to the document and observing the effects. Change the theme of the document to Savon
and change the Style Set to Modern.
Task 6
Task 7
Change the look and feel of the text “Serious Must be Checked by Operators” by applying text
effects from the Home tab. Choose a suitable glow and reflection.
Hint: You may use Find feature from the Edit menu to locate the text.
Task 8
Apply a page border to the entire document. Select setting, style, width and colours of your
choice.
Task 9
Add a watermark having text “MS Word 2016” on all pages of the document. The watermark
should be diagonal and in a light colour other than grey.
Task 10
