WEEK 14: Ships Center of Gravity

Center of Gravity
The ship's keel is used to determine the center of gravity. It is frequently
necessary to determine 'G's new location when cargo is relocated. KG stands
for the length of time between the center of gravity (G) and the keel (K).
Potential concentration points for all weights.
A system of weights' center of gravity can be determined by measuring
moments around an assumed center of gravity, adding up those moments,
and dividing the result by the system's total weight.

MOVEMENTS IN THE CENTER OF

GRAVITY
> G moves towards a weight addition
> G moves away from a weight
removal
> G moves in the direction of a weight
shift
Metacenter - the point where, when a floating body is shifted, the vertical through its
center of buoyancy intersects with the new vertical through its new center of
buoyancy.

MOVEMENTS OF THE METACENTER

The metacenter will change positions in the vertical plane when the ship's
displacement changes.

the metacenter moves law these two rules:

1. When B moves up M moves down.
2. When B moves down M moves up.
