Integrative Review of Care Models in Telehealth Nursing

COVID-19 transformed the planet and industries in 2020. Telehealth became the

alternative for acute and chronic disease treatment because to the need to avoid social

connections and stay-at-home directives. The integrated review examines and assesses COVID-

19 telehealth nursing care models from both patients' and health providers' perspectives.

Background and Significance

A quick switch to telehealth was triggered by the unforeseen global health emergency

that raised questions on remote service efficiency and quality of care (Andrews et al., 2020). This

review is guided by the Donabedian model and it aims to give an insight into the patient’s and

provider’s satisfaction levels as the quality of telecare becomes vital.

Methods

The systematic literature review employed PubMed, CINAHL, Google Scholar, and

Cochrane Library databases to cover English-language studies on pandemic patients' and

providers' telehealth satisfaction from January 2020 to July 11, 2020. Andrews et al. (2020)

reviewed 18 papers and Fineout-Overholt rating matrices. Gallagher-Ford's Rapid Critical

Appraisal Checklist for Descriptive Studies was employed.

Findings

Five of eighteen research were from the US, proving the problem is global. Sixteen

studies examined patient satisfaction and five examined healthcare provider viewpoints

(Andrews et al., 2020). Interestingly, subspecialists provided most telemedicine services. Many

patients and healthcare personnel praised telehealth.

Discussion
3

In this discussion section, the research syntheses data about patients’ satisfaction levels

and those of healthcare professionals in all levels. The satisfaction is explored herein leading to

the causes which include availability, ease of use, and necessity of telehealth approach (Andrews

et al., 2020). Furthermore, it also touches on the challenges and prospects of telehealth care

models.

Implications and Conclusion

The findings are applied to telehealth nursing in the implication section. The study

discusses integrating telehealth into routine care and overcoming challenges to quality telehealth

services. This integrative evaluation provides credible data on patient and health care

professional satisfaction with Telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating its

potential as a successful health care mode.
