    Cleft Sentences
    “Cleft” means divided. A cleft sentence is used to emphasize a particular part
    of a sentence. In a cleft sentence, one element of the sentence is shifted from its
    normal place in the sentence into a separate clause.

    NORMAL SENTENCE: The t w i n s w e r e m a k i n g a t e r r i b l e n o i s e .


    CLEFT SENTENCE: It was the twins who were making a terrible noise.

    Convert each sentence below into a cleft sentence, starting with “It”.

    1. Lind a took my iPad yesterday.

    2. The kids from class 3A spray-painted the school wall.

    3. My mother made the chocolate cake.

    4. Len broke the printer.

    5. The Israelis attacked the Palestinians.

    6. The stolen car was found in Lugo.

    7. On Monday it rained.

    8. The body was found in a shallow grave in the forest.

    9. The war broke out in February.

    10. The results came out on 10th June.
