I. OBJECTIVE:
encourage genuine love for reading through petal talk.
II. TOPIC: Love for Reading
III. Procedure:
1. Get 1 sheet of A4 construction / colored paper. Choose your preferred color of construction paper
to make the paper roses with. If you don’t have construction paper. Old magazine or old
newspaper pages can all also be used. Popular paper colors for roses are pink, red, white, yellow,
orange, and blue.
2. Use a compass or trace something such as round plastic lid onto the paper to draw a circle. Once
you have drawn the circle, use scissors to cut it out of the paper.
3. Draw a spiral within the circle. Use a pencil to draw a spiral that begins along the edge of the
circle and ends in the center. The center of the spiral needs to be approximately 2.5 cm thick.
4. Cut out the spiral. Follow the guideline of the spiral that you draw on the circle.
5. Roll the paper tightly in the spiral shape. Begin at the narrow end of the spiral and roll the paper
towards the center. At the beginning of the spiral where it is very narrow, you may need to fold
the paper in rather than roll it. This is the center of the flower. Roll the paper tightly so that it
doesn’t easily unravel.
6. Fold the spiral center to make a flat base of the rolled paper. Once you reach the center of the
spiral, it will be difficult to roll it any further. Simply press the center of the spiral firmly over the
bottom of the base of the rolled paper. The rolled paper will rest on the flat surface. The flat base
is the bottom of the rose.
7. Let the rose uncoil to your preferred size. Slowly release the pressure that you are using to hold
the flower together. This makes the flower gradually uncoil and become larger. Stop letting the
flower unravel when it is the size that you want.
8. Glue the base to the bottom of the rose.
9. Attach the quotation promoting love for reading in the flower or write the quote directly on the
petals.
