    Nouns: Pronunciation of Final –s and -es for Regular Plural Nouns

    /S/
    Final “-s” is pronounced /s/ after: students, books, desks, cats
    /p/, /t/, /f/, /k/, and /th/.

    /Z/ beds, rooms, lives, dogs


    Final “-s” is pronounced /z/ after:
    /b/, /d/, /g/, /v/, /m/, /n/, /l/, /r/, and
    vowels (a, e, i, o, u).

    IZ/
    Final “-es” is pronounced /IZ/ after: classes, faces
    “-s” sounds exercises, sizes
    “-z” sounds dishes, wishes
    “-sh” sounds sandwiches, watches
    “-ch” sounds colleges, pages
    “-ge / dge” sounds. faxes, taxes
    “x” sounds
