Page Three: The Summary

Your Report should begin with a Summary, and this should be the only thing on page three.

Your summary should:

• Be titled Summary Report.
• Should be approximately 200 words long.
• Be 1.5 line spaced and Arial 11 font as outlined in the Assignment Brief (the same as
the rest of your report to help your marker read and annotate your work).
• Written after you have finished writing your report!

Page Four: The Report

Your assignment is a 2,000-word report identifying and discussing factors which impact on
the delivery of aligned care.
So, it is a report identifying and discussing the factors (leadership, management, and
governance) which impact on the delivery of collaborative and integrated nursing care.
HNU300 Summative Assignment 2 Guide

Ideally your report will be focused on a particular area of care or organisation (e.g.
chronic illness, community care, acute care, elderly care, primary care, secondary care etc)
as this will be an area you are more familiar with.
You might want to consider aspects such as leadership, management, teamwork, emotional
intelligence, resilience, motivation and budgeting and others! See Discussion 7:4 too.
The assignment assesses your knowledge and understanding of leadership and
management in nursing, as well as your critical thinking and critical writing skills.

You must use your critical thinking and writing skills, and a variety of sources (journal
articles, books etc) to identify and discuss factors impacting on the delivery of aligned care.

Although this is a report rather than an essay, it should still be set out in a standard
academic essay format (written in paragraphs and include an introduction, main body of
work, and a conclusion).

Aim to include discussion relating to each of the Learning Objectives (see page one of this
guide).

The introduction: starts at the top of page 4 and should:

• Be aligned to the left / 1.5 line spacing / Arial 11 font.
• Introduce your report and the topic you are reporting on.
• Include the importance/significance of the subject area. In other words, tell your
reader why are you writing it?
• Briefly explain what you will be discussing in the main body.
• State the academic and critiquing skills and format you will be using.
• Should be about 200 words long.

Tip: A nice academic device to “grab” your reader and clarify your understanding of your
core topic might be to include a definition of “aligned care”. This should be from a reputable
source (not Google / Wikipedia / general dictionary etc.) and be cited and referenced in
correct Harvard format.

The Main Discussion:

This should follow your Introduction and should provide the reader with an overview of
your topic and the discuss the topic and themes.

It should have three key sections: 1) Literature Review, 2) Findings, and 3) Discussion.
Use these as your three key headings in your main body of work.

• Continue to be aligned to the left / 1.5 line spacing / Arial 11 font.

• Present main aspects and arguments in a structured manner.
• Use a new paragraph to introduce and discuss different concepts/points.
• Demonstrate your skills in searching, citing and critically analysing relevant
literature.
