SYSTEM TEST AND TRIALS: SHAFT GENERATOR at PTO, PTI, PTH mode.

Before the system test of the 3-phase synchronous alternators, make sure the
Generator protection and Q Generator breaker is tested. The Generator breaker Q
and mcnitoring equipment will be Yard supply and needs to protect the Shaft
generator.

GENERATOR at PTO mode (Power Take Of Normal Shaft generator mode)

1.1 The main engine and alternator shall be coupled and the main engine up to rated
speed shall start the shaft generator. The auxiliary generators shall be able to
operate in parallel with the shaft generators for short time for load transfer only,
when transferring between operation auxiliary diesel generators mode to
operation shaft generators mode.
1.2 It must be assured that the main engine load is stable and that the constant
speed mode is selected. Bring the incoming Generator into synchronism and
phase with the existing network. The shaft generator is suitable for operations in
the primary electrical network of 450VAC, 60Hz and 3-phase system. If the
electrical Load isn't sufficient in the existing system, then the yard needs to make
available further consumers for the Test.
1.3 The shaft generator shall be tested until rated alternator current is reached for
one hour or a test period, which is sufficient to reach the steady state winding
temperature at sea trail in accordance with the requirements of the Classification
Society for the Class notation and flag registry.

GENERATOR at PTI mode (Power Take In)

1.4 It must be assured that the main engine load is stable and that the constant
speea mode is selected. The Reverse power protection of Q needs to be out of
function in this Mode. The main engine is at high load (>85%) and alternator
shall be coupled and the main ecgine up to rated speed shall start the shaft
generator.
1.5 The auxiliary diesel generators need to be able to meet the capacity of the
existing network and in additional the full load of the Shaft generator at this test.
The auxiliary diesel generator sets to be provided with automatic load sharing
and start/stop, and shall be capable of continuous parallel operations with the
Shaft generator at this mode. The PMS needs to provide automatic
synchronising of Q Generator breaker by means of frequency adjustment of the
auxiliary diesels in order to bring the incoming shaft generator into synchronism
and phase with the existing network.
1.6 In order to use the shaft generator as an electric motor the PMS need to increase
the speed of the auxiliary diesels for droop mode type load sharing. PMS need to
increase the speed of the auxiliary dieseis as long as the full load of the Shaft
generator is reached. Auxiliary diesels will boost in to the generator and in to the
shaft system. The main engine load will be reduced proportionally to the
incoming boost load. It is possible to ioad the system more by adjusting the pitch
positior; carefully ahead.
1.7 The shaft generator shall be tested until rated alternator current is reached for
one hour or a test period, which is sufficient to reach the steady state winding
temperature at sea trail in accordance with the requirements of the Classification
Society for the Class notation and flag registry.

GENERATOR at PTH mode (Power Take Home)

1.8 The main engine and shaft generator shall be uncoupled/disconnect and the
main engine, the Gearbox, the Shaft line as well as the Shaft generator is
stopped. The Propeller is in zero-pitch position. The gear wheel of the PTO
gearbox is shifted to PTH mode position manually. The Lubricationlhydraulic
standby pump of the Gearbox is in operation. The Reverse power protection of Q
needs to be out of function in this Mode.
1.9 Start the shafl generator by using the compact motor starter to rated speed.
Three starts are permitted per hour from cold and 2 starts per hour from warm
condition for the starter. The starter is designed for short time operation only.
1. I 0 After the start process of the Shaft generator is ended the shaft generator is
automatically synchronized with the existing network and the PTO clutch of the
Gearbox shall be connected/closed. The Gearbox is operated at reduced speed
in this mode. The Main e n ~ i n eis at stand sill and the main clutch of the Gearbox
remains open!!!
1.I 1 Loading the system by adjusting the pitch position carefully ahead and/or
astern until the maximum power of shaft generator is reached. Pease make sure
not to overload the auxiliary diesel generators.
1.:2 The shaft generator shall be tested until rated alternator current is reached for
one hour or a test period, which is sufficient to reach the steady state winding
temperature at sea trail in accordance with the requirements of the Classification
Society for the Class notation and flag registry.
