Assignment 4
BSCE 1-2 11/21/22
Assignment 4:
1. What do you think about the impact of inventions in your community?
As we moved closer to becoming a modern society or civilization, the
advancement of the previous inventions made by our predecessors as well as the new
breakthroughs created by the current generation seemed to have a significant impact on
leading a modern and convenient lifestyle in our community. As a result, due to the
influence of discoveries and inventions, people's perceptions and beliefs have drastically
shifted. For instance, earlier in time, people who suffered from mental illnesses were
typically referred to as "lunatics" or "crazy people." They were subjected to ruthless
confinement and treatment since their condition was perceived as a sign of madness or
insanity and deemed to be untreatable. Some people, due to their cultural and religious
convictions, contend that it is God's retribution for their life's disobedience. However, as
society progressed, invented, and discovered that mental illnesses are caused by the
psychological trauma of the patient’s previous experiences, it altered people's
perceptions of mental disorders as being relevant and unrelated to God's wrath. Since
then, as psychological problems have proliferated in our community, our leaders have
implemented a series of programs to help raise mental health awareness while also
utilizing the technological advancements of social media platforms to make people aware
and educated that mental illnesses should be addressed seriously.

2. What particular invention you would like to make or see in the future? Describe and
explain why.
Before my parents reach the senility stage, I would like them to witness and be
able to ride the levitating vehicles that have been invented in our country. This invention
is usually referred to as the "flying or floating car," which can be considered a personal
roadable aircraft that is modern and highly advanced due to science and technology.
According to Jenna Martello of Dogonews (2022), flying vehicles might finally become a
reality since the Chinese automaker Xpeng AeroHT just announced two innovative flying
vehicle models, one of which successfully completed its first public test flight in Dubai.
There were 150 conference attendees and authorities present for the brief 90-second first
flight of X2. Moreover, according to the claims from the state-run media agency Xinhua,
an automobile can now levitate around 1.5 inches above the ground due to modifications
made by Chinese researchers. Numerous powerful magnets installed within the vehicle
as well as a portion of an altered highway are also necessary for this ability to work.
Therefore, the invention of levitating vehicles can have a promising future in our society.
With the aid of levitating vehicles, this can reduce the probability of traffic accidents and
ground transportation's emissions, as well as reduce traffic congestion in our country. It
also optimizes the urgency with which emergency services such as ambulances, fire

engines, and other vehicles respond in order to reduce travel time and provide timely
assistance to those in need.

3. What are the trends of technological improvements due to environmental concerns?

One of the most important technological advancements to address environmental
issues is wastewater treatment to reduce water pollution in our environment.
Wastewater treatment is a process that removes particles and organic debris from
wastewater using a combination of physical, chemical, and biological processes and
operations, producing reclaimed effluent that reliably satisfies a high standard of quality.
Back at my former alma mater, we held a certain project called "Throwing of Mabuhay
Balls in the Estero de Paco" to rehabilitate the water quality of our community’s estero.
Bokashi or Mabuhay Balls are fist-sized mud balls made up of molasses, rice hulls, or "ipa,"
and an effective microorganism (EM) solution that helps promote the growth of good
bacteria that consume the contaminants in the water when they are added to a body of
water. Normally, this ecological project is conducted twice a year, making students more
environmentally conscious, particularly when dealing with pollutants

4. What do you think are the common attributes of scientists in their field?
Based on my personal observations, scientists have the following characteristics:
(1) a keen eye for detail (observant). (2) Being rational in reasoning (logical). (3) Data- and
information-supported (supported by facts) (4) Receptive to new ideas and concepts
(open-minded). Generally, when we talk about scientists, they are naturally curious about
the happenings in our world. They have a natural inclination to raise doubts and
suspicions once they observe a certain problem arise in a particular phenomenon.
Therefore, they try to seek solutions by conducting a research study, gathering evidence,
and testing their assumptions and theories in order to provide legal knowledge and
disseminate verified facts to the public.

5. What are the factors do scientists take into account when choosing scientific research?
In my opinion, scientists tend to select scientific research that is timely and
relevant to our society. However, according to research, a scientist must adhere to the
following criteria and principles before conducting scientific research: (1) Pose important
questions that can be empirically examined, (2) link research to theory, (3) use techniques
that allow for direct question exploration, (4) provide a cohesive chain of rigorous
reasoning, (5) replicate and generalize, and (6) encourage academic discussion. This will
assist and guide a scientist or researcher in determining the best course of investigation
to discover laws and formulate theories that can account for natural or social occurrences.

6. Explain if the development of science will improve the living condition of people in the
future.
Personally, I firmly believe that science will enable future generations to live a
harmonious life, as we live in an advanced and modern society today. Through the
development and application of science knowledge to technology, we will be able to
create new innovations that will sustain human life as well as preserve the beauty of our
environment. Moreover, in particular with the medical field, extensive investigations, and
technology designed specifically for different ailments, even incurable conditions like
severe cancer diagnoses can now be treated due to modern research. In a similar manner,
dragline excavators and other heavy machinery that are used in infrastructure
construction, such as bulldozers and graders, and the invention of the wheel tractor
scraper are yet another indication of how innovative concepts have contributed to the
expansion and prosperity of nations' economies. However, despite scientific and
technological developments, the people behind these advancements—the inventors,
engineers, pioneers, and scientists who laid the foundations of knowledge in math and
science—are the ones who will bring our society into the promising world of modernity
and convenience of life.
