WHAT HAPPENS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE STORY?

Fernand Mondego, Edmond's close friend, and Danglars, the ship's unscrupulous first mate are
also introduced at the beginning of the story. As Fernand and Danglars plan to frame Edmond as
a Bonapartist spy and have him imprisoned, it becomes evident that there is jealousy and malice
at work. The plot changes when Edmond is falsely suspected of being a conspirator, imprisoned,
and detained, laying the groundwork for his wrongful imprisonment and eventual metamorphosis
as the Count of Monte Cristo.

HOW DOES THE MAIN CHARACTERS LIFE CHANGE?

The biggest shift in Edmond's life is his unwavering desire to exact retribution on those who
have wronged him, especially Fernand Mondego and Danglars. As Edmond ascends to the
highest echelons of Parisian society in his role as the Count of Monte Cristo, he embarks on a
carefully thought-out and determined effort to bring them down. As a result of his interactions
with affluent people, he grows into a powerful and cunning guy.

DESCRIBE EACH CHARACTER AND GIVE YOUR OPINION ABOUT THEM

a. Fernand Mondego – He is shown as a character with big ambitions/goals. He is envious of

Edmond Dantes and wishes he had Edmond's success, position and love. My opinion, He gives
the authorities incorrect information which leads to Edmond's detention. His betrayal of his
friend is a critical point in the story.

b. Mercedes - Mercedes is shown as a kind and lovely character. She adores Edmond Dantes
and feels devastated by his unfair imprisonment. Throughout the novel, her love and devotion to
Edmond remain constant.

c. Jacopo - Jacopo is portrayed as resourceful and talented in many of ways. He aids Edmond in
his preparations for revenge and guides him in navigating the complexity of society. His
knowledge of the criminal underground, as well as his talents, prove to be important benefits in
the Count of Monte Cristo's quest.

d. Edmond Dantes - Edmond's character develops as he starts on a revenge mission against

those who have deceived him, especially Fernand Mondego and Danglars. He transforms into a
smart and enigmatic character, manipulating situations to bring others down.

e. Gerard de Villefort - He portrays moral disarray. On the other hand, he pretends to respect
the law and be a pillar of society but he participates in deception, cover-ups and suspicious ethics
to preserve his personal interests.
f. Abbe Faria - Abbé Faria has a good moral character. He adopts Edmond and teaches him not
just academic topics but also important life skills like morals and honesty

In this film, it is seen how destruction is brought on by betrayal and the need for vengeance. The
wrongful detention of Edmond, as well as the vows to seek retribution from those who abused
him, battle as cautionary tales about the destructive power of hatred and vengeance.
