A REACTION PAPER on the movie THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO(2002)

“The Count of Monte Cristo” is a powerful movie that is all about betrayal, revenge,
survival, faith and God. This movie amazed me very much because of its lavish scenery,
dramatic acting, and its theme. The theme of the movie is composed of mixed drama, romance,
and suspense. Furthermore, it was not a boring movie to watch, in fact it is magnificent!. The
actors and actresses in the movie were excellent in portraying their roles especially the main
characters of the story. I cannot tell you exactly which I prefer because I haven’t read the book of
“The Count of Monte Cristo” I only saw the movie, but to tell you honestly it was a pretty
amazing movie you must watch. The target audience of this movie is everyone who could
understand the meaning of the text such as young adults who likes interesting work of arts.
“The Count of Monte Cristo” is a story about a sailor named Edmond Dantès who was
betrayed by his jealous friend, Ferdinand. Dantès, an honorable and innocent man is the main
character of the movie. He is a young sailor from Marseilles, France, a loving father and a fiancé.
However, he was framed for a crime he did not commit. He suffered and was locked up in
Château d'If for 13 years. During those long years he met Faria, an old priest who change him
into something smarter, wittier, and wiser. Dantès want to change his whole persona to take
revenge on the people who threw him in darkness and let him suffer for years. Before the priest
lost his breath, he gave Dantès a map where the treasure is located. After Dantès manage to
escape from Château d'If he is out to find the lost treasure. And then, after he found the treasure
he had enough money, power, and knowledge to carry out revenge on his enemies.
After I watched the movie “The Count of Monte Cristo” I remember that this movie was
almost the same as Rizal’s El Filibusterismo when it comes to the story line and conflict. In El
Filibusterismo, Ibarra disguised as Simon same Edmond Dantès disguised as The Count of
Monte Cristo. Ibarra also was abducted and imprisoned just like Dantès. Ibarra and Dantès had
many similarities. In addition, they are also the same when it comes love, Ibarra stayed faithful
to Maria Clara and Dantès love for Mercédès remained. “The Count of Monte Cristo” is indeed a
film worth watching. This movie was one of the best movies I watched, and I really appreciate
and really admire the author of this movie Alexandre Dumas. His work is such a marvelous
masterpiece. In his movie, I learned that life’s trial are not easy, but in God’s will, each has a
purpose.
