4 Installation Site and Operating Conditions

Installation site and operating conditions

Installation site Provide sufficient floor space, see schematic below.
Also include adequate space for the PC.
Clearance around the instrument 70.0 cm (27.6") recommended. Although the
instrument has wheels, it should be accessible from all
sides for proper servicing and airflow.
Room operation-range temperature Maximum: 15.0 °C - 30.0 °C (59.0 °F - 86.0 °F)
Recommended: 20.0 °C - 25.0 °C (68.0 °F - 77.0 °F)
Avoid direct sunlight.
Maximum temperature gradient 1.0 °C (1.8 °F) per hour
Relative humidity 20 ‑ 80 %, non-condensing
Heat Dissipation (maximum) Dissipated heat must be removed by a ventilation or
air-cooling system. Cooling air should flow around the
instrument without restriction. lf possible, locate the air
conditioning and heating ducts so that their airflow is
not aimed directly at the instrument.
We recommend a clean, dust-free environment.
Static electricity elimination (to avoid Any carpeting in the area should be conductive. lf the
adverse effects on instrument electronics) area is carpeted with non-conductive carpet, we
recommend that you place anti-static mats over the
conventional carpeting in the area around the
instrument.

negligible.

lµS Optics and Vacuum

Because the lµS optics are not field-serviceable or cleanable, the optics housing is evacuated to a few
millibars to avoid contamination. The lµS generator contains a vacuum gauge that prevents the shutter
from being opened when the shutter housing is not evacuated (to avoid oxidation of the optics in the
presence of X-rays).

5 Electrical Requirements
• Use the supplied power cable to connect the instrument. See the following table for power
requirements (including the computer and peripherals).

lf the power line voltage at your site fluctuates outside the values in the table below, a compatible
line voltage conditioner or regulator may be necessary. Check with your site's electrical coordinator.

• On the wall behind the instrument, connect power from the building mains to a labeled direct-wired
circuit breaker/disconnect box so that power to the instrument can be interrupted if necessary.
• Wire the room air conditioner and any external pumps to a different electrical circuit than that used
for the instrument. High starting currents from their motors may adversely affect line voltage stability.
• To limit electrical noise in the system, connect the system chassis ground to an external grounding
terminal. Note that only the instrument can use this ground, and the ground resistance must not
exceed 0.5 Ohm. For optimum performance, make this connection within 3.7 m (12') of the rear of
the instrument.
• lf the supply neutral is grounded, it should have the same potential as the earth point on the
instrument.

5.1 Low-Temperature Device Requirements

The optional low-temperature device requires a source of dry air or nitrogen as a shield gas, meeting the
requirements in the following table.

Requirements
Filtration 2 micron particle size, average maximum
Dryness Dew point < -60 °C (-76 °F)
Supply pressure range 2.07 - 6.89 bar (30-100 psi), internally regulated
to 1.38 bar (20 psi)
Table 5.1: Low-temperature device shield gas requirements

The customer must supply a fitting to attach the supplied 8-mm (5/16-inch) input hose to the shield
gas source.

Allow at least 76.2 cm (30.0") behind the instrument for the low-temperature device's dewar and for
service access to it. The dewar is fed from an industry-standard 160-liter tank (not supplied). Allow
adequate space for transporting the tank to within 1.5 m (5.0') of the dewar. Securely mount the
cylinders to a wall or table.
