Installation Requirements for

MATRIX-I

The following document describes the site and technical requirements to be provided when
installing the MATRIX-I FT-NIR spectrometer. To ensure optimum spectrometer
performance and operating reliability it is recommended to observe the following ambient
requirements.

Installation and initial operation of MATRIX-I will be performed by qualified Bruker service
personnel. The operating company has to prepare the spectrometer installation site in time,
and provide the utilities required. If the delivery of a data system and / or the installation of
the operating system and the application software has not been stipulated, the operating
company also needs to provide a data system that complies with the technical requirements
and has the required rights. (See enclosure.)

Contact Bruker service if you have any further questions with regard to installation
preparation procedures.

Correct Usage:
The spectrometer and its components should only be used according to the operating
instructions described in the manual or advised by a Bruker engineer. Do not perform any
technical changes on the spectrometer, components or on the spectrometer system! In case
of accessories or components produced by other manufacturers and used in connection with
the spectrometer, Bruker does not assume any liability for safe operation and proper
functioning.

Space Requirements:
The standard spectrometer optics requires an area of approximately 60 x 80cm. The
spectrometer should be placed on a stable and horizontal base which is able to bear the
weight of the spectrometer (approx. 30kg) and its possible accessories. At the rear side, the
spectrometer requires a clearance of at least 25cm. To save place the data system units
can either be housed in a 100 x 55cm (width x depth) computer rack which is optionally
available, or beside the spectrometer.

When installing the spectrometer make sure that the main power supply connection can be
easily interrupted at any time, either by the safety plug, main switch or appliance inlet
connector.

For details on the spectrometer dimensions refer to the attached drawings.

Environmental Requirements:

Installation location: closed room (≤ 2000m above sea level)

1
Operating temperature : 5°C – 35°C (41 - 95°F)
Humidity (non-condensing): ≤ 80% relative humidity
Temperature variations (during measurement): max. ±1°C

Temperature variations can impair the results of long-term measurements. Therefore,

temperature variations should be less than 1°C per hour and not more than 2°C per day, if it
is not possible to acquire further background spectra during the measurement period
specified.

The spectrometer is shielded against electromagnetic interferences. Nevertheless, the

instrument should not be installed near high electric and magnetic fields.
Make sure that sources of potential inductive electrical interferences (e.g. pumps, large
electric motors, microwave ovens etc.) and the spectrometer are not connected to one
single electrical circuit.

Ideally, the spectrometer is not installed near vibration sources, e.g. ventilation hoods, air
conditioners, motors, elevators.

1
If the system was stored outside the range of the specified operating temperature, it must acclimatize before switching it on.
