A. Do you consider cultural appropriation an offensive matter to the owner of the culture or is it a way of celebrating
and awareness of other cultures? Give at least 2 ways on how can we avoid being labeled as culturally appropriating
a particular group of indigenous people in the Philippines? (10 points)

- For me it is not an offensive matter because cultural appropriation is a subjective and complex topic, and
opinions on it can vary widely. To avoid being labeled as culturally appropriating a particular group of
indigenous people in the Philippines you must educate yourself about certain cultural context and important is
that to seek for permission and if possible, collaborate directly with members of the community to ensure that
your representation is accurate and respectful.

B. The dog-eating tradition has been a part of the culture of some indigenous cultural communities and is common
in some areas in the Philippines. Are you in favor of legalizing dog-eating in the Philippines as part of cultural
tradition? Why or Why not? (10 points)

- Personally as a dog lover who value their life and treat them as a part of the family I strongly disagree with
that cultural tradition. We are now in the 21st century wherein we already have this law that protect
animals such as dogs and cats. Ultimately, discussions around such issues should involve a careful
consideration of cultural sensitivity, ethical concerns, and the well-being of animals. Legislation and
policies should be developed with a balanced approach that respects cultural diversity while upholding
fundamental principles of compassion and ethical treatment of animals.

C. Should we still allow "pagbabatok" for the foreign and local tourists in Kalinga or is it a form of cultural
appropriation that needs to be stopped? Explain your answer. (10 points)

- The decision on whether to allow "pagbabatok" for tourists should involve careful consideration of
the potential benefits and risks. It requires a collaborative effort between the local community,
authorities, and tourists to find a balance that respects and preserves the cultural heritage of Kalinga
while promoting cultural exchange in a responsible manner. It is also a way of cultural preservation:
Allowing "pagbabatok" for tourists may contribute to the preservation and promotion of Kalinga's
cultural heritage. It can create awareness about the tradition and its importance, fostering a sense of
pride and appreciation among the local community.
