Aim

To realize a Half Adder using basic gates and understand its operation.

Components Required

2 Ammeter (0- 50)mA 1

3 V oltmeter (0- 10)V 1

Theory

Adder circuits are used f or adding two number s in digital logic design. A half adder is a combinational
logic circuit that perf or ms the addition of two data bits, A and B, resulting in a sumbit (S) and a carry bit
(C). The Boolean functions describing the half - adder are: S = A XOR B, C = A AN D B.
Procedure

1. Connect the I Cs 7408, 7486, and 7432 on the I C Trainer K it.

2. U se patch cords to establish the connections as per the circuit diagramprovided.

3. Apply the binary inputs A and B to the respective input pins of the half adder circuit.

4. Observe the outputs S (sum) and C (carry) on the output pins of the circuit.

5. Record the truth table f or dif f erent input combinations.

6. V er if y the outputs with the expected results based on the truth table.

Observations

- Recorded the truth table f or input combinations.

- Observed the outputs S and C f or each input combination.

- V er if ied the outputs with the expected results.
