Noli Me Tangere El Filibusterismo

Crisóstomo Ibarra
Wealthy young mestizo, came
back from Europe to
Philippines after studying
there for 7 years. He is a
very idealistic man. He
represent Jose Rizal in the
story.
María Clara
CHARACTERS The real daughter of Fr.
Damaso due to the scandalous
relationship between Pia Alba.
She is the adaptive daughter
of Capitan Tiago. Represent
the womanhood of that time.
Father Damaso
The biological father of Maria
Clara. He is a power hungry,
corrupt priest that live in
the Philippines for nearly two
decades. Have no empathy to
others just like what he did
to the father of Crisostomo
Ibarra, which masterminded his
death. He reflect the wrong
doing of the priest that time.
Elías
Simoun
The Crisostomo in disguise, he
has a different appearance in
this story compare to the story
of Noli Me Tangere. He acts rude
but he scretly planning a
violent revolution. This is
because he want to take revenge
from his past life and also to
help his friend elias. He
represent a part of Filipino
that is exhausted from the
oppression of Spanish
Government.
Basilio
He's studying to become a doctor
and is doing well in his last
year at the university. After
his mom passed away in "Noli,"
he worked for Captain Tiago in
exchange for food and a place to
stay while studying. He
eventually became the manager of
Tiago's estate. He's a quiet and
thoughtful guy, focused on being
a servant, a doctor, and part of
a student group. He's not into
politics or fighting for the
country's freedom. His

A man who run away from law,
and resent the Spanish
Colonial Government and the
catholic Church. He save
Crisostomo Ibarra from
marauding crocodile which is
they cross their path. He
swear that he will protect
Crisostomo Ibarra from his
enemies. He represent Andres
Bonifacio.
Don Rafael Ibarra
Father of Crisostomo Ibarra.
Just like his son, he support
liberal education for all and
a vocal critic of corrupt
practices of Spanish friars.
He is accused by Fr. Damaso
with sedition and heresy. He
Dies in prison due to the
pneumonia. He is buried in
catholic cemetery until Fr.
Damaso hire a grave digger to
place its body to chinese
cementery. The grave digger
throws the body to the river
as it is honorable than buries
in Chinese cemetery.
Crispín
A hardworking son of Sisa,
together with his brother
Basilio, they work together to
send money as a support to
their mother.Blame for
stealing money from the church
and kept prisoner until he
girlfriend is Juli, Kabesang
Tales' daughter, who took him in
when he was a young boy. Even
though he's aware of the
problems his family faced, he
doesn't support a revolution. As
a medical student, he's educated
but has become indifferent to
the suffering of his fellow
Filipinos and his country
because of his tough past
experiences.
Isagani
Basilio's friend, is a young
poet in the novel. Despite being
younger, he's taller and
stronger than Basilio. There's a
rumor that he might be the son
of Padre Florentino, his uncle,
from a past love before
Florentino became a priest.
Isagani is studying at Ateneo
Municipal and plans to pursue
medicine. He's part of a student
group and is proud but a bit
naive. His idealistic and poetic
nature clashes with his
girlfriend Paulita's practical
concerns. When their group is
outlawed, Isagani's idealism
leads him to get arrested,
causing Paulita to leave him. In
the end, he decides to stay with
Florentino, symbolizing the
idealistic Filipino youth of
that time. Despite his lofty
ideals, Isagani sometimes

paid the debt. He then died at
the hand of chief sexton.
Crispin and Basilio represent
those who did not receive
education. The suffering they
are subjected is due largely
to ignorant over the depence
on the church.
Basilio
Eldest brother of Crispin and
the eldest son of Sisa. He
attempt to locate his brother
after his desperate run after
Crispin got drag away. The day
Civil Guard comes looking for
them, he fearingly make a dash
toward the forest where he met
a kind family and celebrate
Christmas Eve with them.He
then plan to locate his
mother, but when he locate his
mother he learn that his
mother goes into insanity. He
follow his mother into the
forest where he temporarily
recognize his son Basilio, his
mother then died from the
shock.
Captain Tiago
Real name is Don Santiago de
los Santos. Is a wealthy
native born man. He is the
foster father of the lovely
Maria Clara. He keep his close
ties with high ranking
officials. He has a conflict
forgets them for personal
reasons.
Captain Tiago
Owned land in Pampanga, Binondo,
and Laguna. He also took over
the Ibarras' estate. When María
Clara entered a convent, Tiago
became depressed. To cope, he
started smoking opium, which
turned into a serious problem,
especially with the influence of
Padre Írene, who supplied him
with the substance. Tiago hired
Basilio as a servant, offering
him the chance to study as part
of his payment. Shockingly,
Tiago died upon learning about
Basilio's arrest and Padre
Írene's exaggerated tales of a
violent uprising.
Don Custodio
Custodio de Salazar y Sánchez de
Monteredondo, a well-known
figure in the story, was
assigned by the Captain-General
to create a plan for a Spanish
teaching academy. However, he
faced a dilemma as the priests
pressured him not to challenge
their control over education.
The book criticizes Custodio,
describing him as an opportunist
who married into high society,
often dismissing ideas that
weren't his own. Despite his
airs, he's portrayed as

to marry his daughter to a man
with influential family.We can
call him “sinaunang
sipsip”(my opinion).
Doña Consolación
The wife of Ensign( a nameless
head of Civil Guard). He is
called “ The muse of civil
guard. Because he always makes
the decision not his husband.
He is a person that he himself
as a high standing in society.
laughably incompetent. In the
story, Rizal paints him as an
average, unqualified official
who holds multiple positions and
refuses to consider ideas from
others. His joy seems to come
from making people feel
inferior.
Maria Clara
She symbolizes the influence of
friars in Filipino culture
during a revolutionary period.
Maria Clara, having endured both
physical and spiritual suffering
for over 13 years, tragically
passes away. As a result, there
is no reunion between Simoun and
Maria Clara, despite their 13-
year separation, as Simoun is
not allowed to meet her.
Kabesang Tales
He worked as a sugarcane farmer
but faced hardships, losing his
family and land. When the
Dominicans took over his farm,
he fought hard to keep it.
Unfortunately, he was kidnapped
by bandits while patrolling his
fields. His daughter Juli had to
work as a maid to pay for his
release. With his son Tano
drafted into the Guardia Civil
and facing financial struggles,
Telesforo eventually joined the
bandits for revenge against the
friars who had mistreated him.

His story reflects the harsh
realities and personal struggles
of those who turn to banditry
for justice.

Juli
Juliana de Dios, Basilio's
girlfriend and Kabesang Tales'
youngest daughter, faced a tough
situation when her father was
captured by bandits. To raise
ransom money, she worked as a
maid for Hermana Penchang.
Basilio rescued her and even
bought a house for her family.
Later, when Basilio ended up in
prison, Juli sought help from
Padre Camorra. Tragically,
instead of assistance, Camorra
tried to assault her. In a
heartbreaking decision, Juli
chose to end her own life by
jumping from the church tower,
demonstrating her commitment to
honor and chastity rather than
surrendering to Camorra's
advances.

Placido Penitente
A young student wants a better
life abroad. When he hears about
Simoun's rebellion plan, he gets
really scared. Now, he can't
decide if he should join or not.
This student represents the
group in the Philippines that
doesn't feel strongly about
their country or care about
