Discrepancy in India and Turkish Culture

Culture is the phenomenon that includes the art, beliefs, customs and traditions of a society that has
existed for centuries.There are similarities and differences between cultures, but there are more
differences than similarities between Turkey and India if we were to list them.

India is the 7th largest country in the world with an area of 3.287.263 square kilometers located in
the Asian continent. On the contrary, Turkey has coastlines to both Asia and Europe and is 37th in
the ranking with 814.576 square kilometers. The capital of India is New Delhi and Turkey's is Ankara.
India has a large population of 1 billion 425 million 775 thousand 850 people, but Turkey has a
smaller population of 85 million 279 thousand 553 people. While the language commonly used in
India is Devanagari, in Turkey is Turkish. Devanagari is a 49 letter language belonging to the Indo-
Aryan language family. But Turkish is a 29 letter language belonging to the Ural-Altaic language
family. Devanagari has 600 million speakers and ranks 3rd among the most spoken languages. On
the contrary, Turkish has an average of 180-200 million speakers and ranks 20th in this list.

Due to the differencies in each culture there are also differencies in family life. In Turkish families
have a more nuclear family structure where close family members reside in their own houses on the
other hand Indian families the concept of joint families is so prevalent. Such as their family structure
includes that parents,grandparents and their children, they frequently live together in the same
home.Another thing is religious practices are also different in turkey dominant religion is islam and it
has rich islamich heritages also mosques holds a special place in Turkish society.on the other hand
there are various beliefs in India such as buddhism,hinduism,christianity,islam are some of the major
religion practices in india.

When it comes to practising rituals for İndians, is not only a necessity but also a way of life. The most
common of these are Puja, meditation and visiting a temple. Turks, on the other hand, have rituals
such as evil eye beads to ward off the evil eye at home and pouring water behind the departed
person. Celebrations have a great place in India. Festivals, which are celebrated with excitement,
often include colourful colours and rituals. For example, in Holi, the festival of colours celebrated in
March. In Turkey, Republic Day, Hıdırellez and Cappadocia Balloon Festival are celebrated with great
joy. For instance, on Republic Day, Turkish flags are hung on buildings and houses and people dress
in red and white.

As wedding traditions, Indians gather the family before the wedding, sing and dance, this is also
known as Sangeet. In the Mehndi tradition, only the bride's friends participate and henna is burnt on
the hands. In Turkey, Henna night is organised among women before asking for a girl, engagement
and wedding. Brides usually wear white wedding dresses.Indian cuisine has a good place in the
world. The spice known as curry in the West has an important place in Indian cuisine along with
other spices. Indian cuisines include Keemo, Naan bread, Samosa. Turkish cuisine, one of the best
cuisines in the world, has a variety of dishes to suit everyone's taste. To give an example, bagels,
stuffed leaves, manti, kebab, ayran are preferred by everyone
