Discrepancy in India and Turkish Culture

Culture is the phenomenon that includes the art, beliefs, customs, and traditions of a society that
has existed for centuries. There are similarities and differences between cultures, but there are
more differences than similarities between Turkey and India if we were to list them.

India is the seventh largest country in the world with an area of 3.287.263 square kilometers located
in the Asian continent. On the contrary, Turkey has coastlines to both Asia and Europe and is 37th in
the ranking with 814.576 square kilometers. The capital of India is New Delhi, and Turkey's is Ankara.
India has a large population of 1 billion 425 million 775 thousand 850 people, but Turkey has a
smaller population of 85 million 279 thousand 553 people. While the language commonly used in
India is Devanagari, it is Turkish in Turkey. Devanagari is a 49-letter language belonging to the Indo-
Aryan language family. But Turkish is a 29-letter language belonging to the Ural-Altaic language
family. Devanagari has 600 million speakers and ranks 3rd among the most spoken languages. On
the contrary, Turkish has an average of 180-200 million speakers and ranks 20th on this list.

Due to the differences in each culture, there are also differences in family life. Turkish families have
a more nuclear family structure where close family members reside in their own houses. On the
other hand, in Indian families, the concept of joint families is so prevalent. Their family structure
includes parents, grandparents, and their children. They frequently live together in the same home.
Another thing is religious practices are also different in Turkey. The dominant religion is Islam, and it
has a rich Islamic heritage. Also, mosques hold a special place in Turkish society. On the other hand,
there are various beliefs in India, such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam, which are
some of the major religious practices in India.

When it comes to practicing rituals for İndians is not only a necessity but also a way of life. The most
common of these are Puja, meditation, and visiting a temple. Turks, on the other hand, have rituals
such as evil eye beads to ward off the evil eye at home and pouring water behind the departed
person. Celebrations have a great place in India. Festivals, which are celebrated with excitement,
often include colorful colors and rituals. For example, in Holi, the festival of colours, is celebrated in
March. In Turkey, Republic Day, Hıdırellez, and Cappadocia Balloon Festival are celebrated with great
joy. For instance, on Republic Day, Turkish flags are hung on buildings and houses, and people dress
in red and white.

As a wedding tradition, Indians gather the family before the wedding, sing, and dance; this is also
known as Sangeet. In the Mehndi tradition, only the bride's friends participate, and henna is burnt
on the hands. In Turkey, Henna night is organized among women before asking for a girl,
engagement, and wedding. Brides usually wear white wedding dresses. Indian cuisine has a good
place in the world. The spice known as curry in the West has an important place in Indian cuisine,
along with other spices. Indian cuisines include Keemo, Naan bread, and Samosa. Turkish cuisine,
one of the best cuisines in the world, has a variety of dishes to suit everyone's taste. To give an
example, bagels, stuffed leaves, manti, kebab, and ayran are preferred by everyone
