including people fleeing their villages, and high levels of
radioactivity.
2. An industry in which the government can profit by allowing
curious people to visit the site of a disaster
3. It reinforces how devastating the Chernobyl disaster was
4. radioactivity levels there are still so high, many in the
surrounding areas still suffer from diseases caused by
radiation, such as cancer, leukemia, heart disease, etc.
Animals and human children have also suffered abnormalities
and malformations because of the radiation, and some animal
meat is still unfit for human consumption. However, many
people continue to stay either in the affected area, or in areas
that are too close to radiation, because they have nowhere else
to go, or because they have lived on the land for generations.

Mini project
Divide sts into three groups with 3-4 students each. Each
group will discuss different aspects: causes, effects, and
lessons learned from the Chernobyl disaster. They should
share their group's findings or conclusions by presenting in S12
front of the class. Encourage each student to speak.
(Teachers own decision to
give sts A3 and markers)
