Clinical presentation 1
Focal lesions of vitiligo showing localized area of white hair (leukotrichia). This is undetermined or unclassified vitiligo
Leukotrichia
Vitiligo at a site of chronic pressure (around the waist). Isomorphic or Koebner phenomenon
Isomorphic or Koebner phenomenon. Vitiligo appearing along the shoe contact in a woman with generalized vitiligo
Reverse Koebner phenomenon. Sparing of normal skin along the shoe contact in a woman with universal vitiligo
A 52-year-old woman with universal vitiligo showing spontaneous typical perifollicular re-pigmentation only on sun-exposed areas
•Daruna – when doshas vitiates the rakta dhatu (blood), the patches will be red in colour.
•Aruna – when doshas vitiates the mamsa dhatu (muscle tissue), the patches will be coppery in
colour.
•Kilasa – when doshas vitiates the medho dhatu (fat tissue), the patches will be white in colour.
This is the most common clinical presentation of svitra hence leukoderma is often called Kilasa.
If the patches are conjoined together and are more in number, if the body hair above the patches
are red in color and if the disease is more than one year old. Such śvitra never gets cured. If body
hair over the patches is not red if skin is thin and pale in color. The disease, if is not old, space
between patches is elevated then such śvitra is sadhya.
Treatment plan should be designed taking in account of the disease pattern, patient’s age,
occupation, Prakriti, condition e.g. pregnancy etc.
