0 PURPOSE
The purpose of this document is to define the tests to be conducted on site for
switch gear board earthing system
2.0 SCOPE
This procedure shall be applicable for switch gear board earthing system and to
specify the acceptable values. / Ground resistivity around switch gear board

4.0 TOOLS & TESTING EQUIPMENTS
- PPE’s & Safety belts.
- Calibrated Measuring Instruments
 Earth Clamp Tester Model UT275
 Earth and Resistivity Testers C.A 6462
5.0 RESPONSIBILITY
I. HSE Advisor shall be Responsible for safety related matters and all the safety
aspects of the site.
II. Testing and Commissioning Engineer shall be responsible for all kind of testing
and commissioning activities as per the method of statement
6.0 CONTROL MEASURES:
I. QUALITY CONTROL
1) Ensure valid calibration certificates are available with the equipment, which
are being used.
2) Ensure approved method of statement
3) Raise inspection request and coordinate client consultant for required
inspection.
7.0 TESTING PROCEDURES:
1) Visual and Mechanical Inspection
 Verify ground system is in compliance with drawings, specifications,
 Inspect physical and mechanical condition
2) Electrical Tests
 62% method / On-line Test/Ground resistivity measurement with the
"Wenner method" (4-rod method)
i. 62% method

ii. On line test


iii. Ground resistivity measurement with the "Wenner method"
(4-rod method)

3) Test Values

 The resistance between the main grounding electrode and ground


should be no greater than five ohms for large commercial or
industrial systems and 1.0 ohm or less for generating or
transmission station grounds unless otherwise specified by the
owner
