Discussion Forum Unit 8

The Greeks and the Romans took pride in their culture. Although the present era has been influenced by
their ideas and philosophy, we see a number of loopholes into it.

Imagine that you have a chance to tell a Greek or Roman citizen that the present era is a better time to be
alive compared to the ancient period in history. What arguments would you use to convince them?

Hello Instructor/Peers,

During the Greek and roman era, there were some economic, political, and social problems
existing in the society that was devastating for the common individual. So in order to convince a
person that the society of the present times is better than the society of the then time period I
would use the arguments mentioned below:

I would try to talk about how they would travel, the methods of communication, and some areas
of architecture.

In ancient Greek society, only free men were considered a citizen and possessed civil rights,
because once you are considered to be a slave you had no talk, you got to work with what is
handed down to you. But in today's society, the condition is different. Society acts on the belief
of equality before the law and the dignity of the individual is an important factor reason being it
is your constitutional right.

In ancient Greek society rebellion, assassination, and civil war was common but now in the 21 st-
century democracy is the most prevalent political system in the world. People can choose their
representatives and take part in political life. This opportunity is present for women and men
equally.

In ancient Greek and roman society, the development of homes, and walls was built using
wood, mud bricks, and straws, when it comes to columns it was limestone and marble that was
used and in present times, we used steel, blocks, and cement to build how homes.

Greek politics introduced democracy and citizenship, which have since come to symbolize the
core of Western political systems. The writings of philosophers like Socrates, Plato, and
Aristotle, whose works are still read and studied today, have also had an impact on Western
philosophy. Modern medicine was made possible by Hippocrates and Galen's scientific
advancements, and Pythagoras made important contributions to mathematics. The ideas and
accomplishments of ancient Greece continue to influence and enrich the Western world today,
whether in politics, philosophy, science, or the arts. Compared to ancient Rome or Greece,
technology and medicine have made more progress.
