Assignment-Mid-term
1) As per the circuit shown in figure 1(a), the measured value of voltage across the resistance is
100V±3% and the current flowing through the resistance is measured as 20A±0.7A. Identify
the value of resistance from this measurement. Also identity the maximum percentage error for
the power measurement across resistance from the above measured parameters. [2.5x2=5.0]

(a) (b)

2) Calculate the maximum percentage error for the measurement of potential difference (E) as
shown in figure 1(b). The measured value of voltages across resistance R1 and R2 are 85V±5%
and 35V±3% respectively. [5.0]

3) An ammeter as shown in figure 2 has a PMMC instrument with a coil resistance of Rm=99Ω
and full scale deflection (FSD) current of 0.1mA. A shunt resistance of Rs=1Ω is connected
within it’s construction. Determine the total current passing through the ammeter at
(ii) 0.95 FSD
(iii) 0.6 FSD [2.5x2=5.0]
4) A resistance (R) is measured using ammeter-voltmeter method where the ammeter is placed in
series with the unknown resistance R. The measured current is 0.5A and the voltmeter reading
is 500V. The ammeter has internal resistance Ra=10Ω.
(a) Draw the circuit for this measurement and
(b) Calculate the true value of R. Also identify the relative error for this measurement of
unknown resistance, R. [2.5x2=5.0]

5) A Wheatstone bridge as shown in figure 3 has P=3.5kΩ, Q=7kΩ. The galvanometer null point
is obtained when the variable resistance become 5.51kΩ.
(a) Calculate the value of R
(b) Determine the resistance measurement range for the bridge if S is adjustable from
1kΩ to 8kΩ. [2.5x2=5.0]

Figure 3: Measurement of unknown resistance R using Wheatstone bridge.

6) The AC bridge circuit given in figure 4 is operating at a supply frequency of 110 kHz. The
circuit is made balanced when the components are C3=0.1uF, R1=1.26kΩ, R3=75Ω, R4=500Ω.
Derive the equations of Lp and Rp and also identify their value. [5.0]
