3.1. General
The interior of Liebert Network Power Switch I , when it is powered, has
hazardous AC voltage present inside. The control logic, which is supplied by
low voltage, has low power. Part of this type of equipment is powered by +/-
5 V, +/- 15 V & +30 V logic power supplies. These are referenced to
potentials other than earth zero. So high voltages with respect to earth exist
on some circuit boards in it.
3.2 Safety Warning
Ensure somebody is available to isolate the electricity supply if necessary.
Stand on an approved rubber insulating mat when working on the
equipment.
WARNING ! : Some rubber mats contain a carbon base pigment and are
not suitable!

q Remove watches, rings, earrings and other metal jeweleries and any loose
material like pens, tools or metal objects from pocket before working on the
equipment.

q Do not touch printed circuit boards. High voltages exist, there is an electric
shock hazard.

q Use only isolated tools.

q Never work alone, learn first aid, especially cardiopulmonary resuscitation

(CPR), for electrical accident victims. Unless power is removed from the
equipment, one person should never work alone. A second person should be
standing by to assist him.

q Turn off power before working on electric or electronic circuit, except when
absolutely necessary. Consider all wire and terminals to be live until proven
otherwise by a safe test method.

q Turn off power to equipment before checking or replacing fuses. Locate and
correct the cause of a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker before replacing
the fuse or resetting the breaker.

q Always check the electrical rating of equipment you use, and be sure you
use that equipment within its ratings.

Liebert Network Power Switch I 3

3.3.1 Electrical shock

• Immediate action is essential. Severe electric shock may affect heart action
and breathing.

• Make sure it is safe to approach. If the casualty is in contact with a live

conductor, isolate by switching off the supply. If this is not possible, or it is
doubtful whether the system is electrically isolated, stand on a dry
insulating material and pull or push the casualty clear using dry insulating
material, e.g. wood, plastic, fabrics etc.

• If necessary, give artificial respiration.

• Seek the assistance of others to summon medical attention.

3.3.2 Electrical burns

• Apply a dry sterile dressing.

3.4 Safety precautions for AC capacitor

• Handle capacitor units carefully as they remain charged even after

disconnection, may be due to faulty discharge devices. Consider capacitor
terminals, connected bus bars, cables and other devices which are
connected with them, as energized. Voltage might be present there.

7. System Description
The Liebert Network Power Switch I is an intelligent static transfer switch
designed to provide fast automatic transfer between two independent AC
power source to critical equipment.
One of the two AC input is designated as the "priority" source to which the
Liebert Network Power Switch I will connect the load as long as the input
source is within acceptable voltage & frequency limits. If the priority Source
falls outside the acceptable limits, the Liebert Network Power Switch I will
transfer the output load to the other "alternate" input. It will remain on this
source as long as the alternate Source is within acceptable voltage and
frequency limits. In case of overload, Liebert Network Power Switch I gives
alarm. Under short circuit condition the load is protected by a fast acting semi
conductor fuse & by electronic circuitry.
The Liebert Network Power Switch I consists of two modules. Fixed module
consists of input and output connection and manual bypass transfer switch.
Second module is hot swappable plug in type removable electronic & static
switch module.
The Liebert Network Power Switch I is designed to allow replacement of the
removable electronic module without having to de-energize the load
equipment.

16. Environmental Compatibility, Disposal
Environmental concerns during development

In contrast to earlier Liebert Network Power Switch I devices, the number of

components has been greatly reduced through the use of highly integrated
components and modular construction. As a result, energy consumption
during production has been reduced.

Particular attention was paid to reducing the volume, mass and variety of
metals and plastics used. Environmental compatibility was an important
criterion in to the selection of parts obtained from vendors.

Environmental concerns during production

Components obtained from vendors are delivered primarily in reusable

packaging.

ASIC components and SMD elements are used on the flat component groups.

Environmental concerns during disposal

The device can be stripped down into recyclable mechanical components with
screw and snap connections. Within the area of the EU, disposal should be
carried out by a certified disposal company .In other countries local
regulations must be observed.
