Learning Task 1
Ohm’s Law

Solve the following problems. Show all your work with corresponding solution
and use correct units

1. A frying pan is connected to a 110-volt circuit. If the resistance of the frying pan is 10
ohms, how many amperes does the frying pan draw?

Answer:

Given: V=110V
R= 15 Ohms

I=V/R

I= 110/15

I= 7.33 A

2. When a current of 3 amperes is run through the coiled heating element of a stove,
the resistance of the element is 80 ohms. What is the voltage of the stove?

Answer:

Given:

I = 3 amp.
R = 80 ohms

V = IR

V = 3(80)

V = 240 V

3. A light bulb carries 0.5 A when 4 volts is impressed across it. What is the resistance
of the filament in the light bulb?

Answer:

Given:

I = O.5 A
V = 4V

R = V/I

R = 4V/0.5A

R= 8 Ohms

4. In the following circuits, find the unknowns.

5. An electric heater has a coiled metal wire which draws a current of 100 A. The
resistance of the wire is 1.1 ohms. Calculate the voltage that must be established to it.

Answer :

Given :
I = 100 amp.
R = 1.1 ohms

V = 100A(1.1ohms)

V = 110V
