10. Difference between bearing and bushing.
11. Properties of material used for lining of friction surface of clutch.
12. Types of friction clutches and their uses.

13. Two shafts are connected by means of flange coupling to transmit torque of 25𝑁⁄𝑚 the
flange of the coupling fastened by 4 bolts of same material at a radius of 30 mm find the
size of the bolt If the allowable shear stress for the bolt’s material is 30MPa?

14. A double riveted double cover butt joints is made up of 20 mm thick plate at 25 diameter
rivets at 100 mm pitch. assume the permissible stresses are 𝜎𝑡 = 120 MPa, = 100 , 𝜎𝑐 =

15. The cutter of a coaching machine is pulled by a square thread screw of 55𝑚𝑚 external
diameter and 10𝑚𝑚 pitch, the opening nut takes the axial load 400𝑁 of a flat surface
(60𝑚𝑚 ∗ 90𝑚𝑚) internal and external diameter if the coefficient of friction is 0.15 for all
contact surfaces. the power required to rotate the operating nut when the cutting speed is
6 𝑚⁄𝑚𝑖𝑛 , Also find the efficiency of the screw.

16. The vertical screw with single start square thread of 50𝑚𝑚 of mean diameter and 12.5 𝑚𝑚
pitch is raised against a load of 10𝐾𝑁 by means of hand wheel the boss of which is threaded
to act as a nut the axial load is taken by the thrust collar which support the wheel boss and
has mean diameter of 60𝑚𝑚. The coefficient of friction is 0.15 for the screw and nut is
0.18 for the collar if the tangential force is applied by each hand to the wheel 100𝑁 , find
the suitable diameter of the hand wheel.
