Unsung Heroes of Nation
The month of October is always special to all educators for it is
World Teachers’ Day. In the Philippines, schools from both public
and private sectors observe this special occasion - the time when
teachers are treated as heroes of the modern era.
Teachers are indeed the modern heroes - the quality of service
they render to educate every Juan is comparable indeed and in fact, the
skills of our teachers are highly recognized by other learning institutions
across the globe.
For the past decades, teachers have been waiting for salary
increase. Aside from the accross-the-board implementation of salary
standardization law, teachers have been praying for the effectivity of
Executive Order 170 or the Career Progression of Teachers. This may
ease the teachers weighing their financial needs if they will be reclassed
into higher positions and higher salary grade.
In spite of their prayers for a salary increase, most teachers have
been dedicated to their service.
Teachers work beyond their official time. Because of admin and
non-teaching related tasks such as interventions and remediation,
teachers in the Philippines are considered underpaid. The tasks given to
the paper work somehow affect their preparation for classroom teaching.
Teachers were included as frontliners as well. In order materialize

They are the ones responsible for peaceful and organized voting.
Teachers are indeed the unsang heroes. The respect we give
to all educators shall be tantamount to respect we give to uniformed
personnel.
They mold children who shall be the leaders and catalyst of
progress in the future.
