1. The magnetic bearing of a line is 𝑆47°30′𝐸 and the magnetic declination is 8°20′𝐸. What
is the true bearing of the line?
2. In an old survey made when the declination was 4°15′𝐸, the magnetic bearing of a given
line was 𝑁35°15′𝐸. The declination in the same locality now is 1°10′𝑊. What are the true
bearing and the present magnetic bearing that would be used in retracing the line?
3. A theodolite for which the circle is graduated 0° to 360° clockwise and with a least count
of 30′′ is used to measure an angle by 10 clockwise “repetitions”, 5 with the telescope
direct and 5 with the telescope reversed. Compute the value of the angle from the following
data.

Telescope Reading Circle

Direct Initial backsight 50°45′00′′
Direct After first turning 170°56′
Reversed After 10th turning 172°38′00′′
4. A theodolite, having a circle graduated 0° to 360° clockwise, is used to measure an angle
three times direct and three times reversed (3DR). The data are as follows:
Station From/To Rep. Horizontal Circle
B2 0 00°00′00′′
A2 C 1D 145°30′30′′
C 3R 153°04′30′′

The theodolite has a least count of 30′′. Calculate the average angle. Is the set acceptable?
Explain why or why not.
