ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I take opportunity to sincere graduate to my guide Sr Norazura Binti Mizal Azzmi and Ts Zaimah
Binti Zainal Abidin for their support to complete this test in successful way. And thank you for
teaching us to do this test easily.
I would like to thank my groupmates who helped me a lot in finalizing this
assignment within the limited time frame.
Finally, I would like to thank my circle for help me finish this report without having any trouble.
OBJECTIVE

To obtain uniform 150mm/100mm cube specimens for density and concrete

strength determinations.
To determine the characteristic strength of the concrete.
Cubes are properly cured and crushed at the ages of 7, 28 etc. Three cubes are
crushed at a time and their mean crushing strength is taken as the compressive
strength of concrete.
EQUIPMENT
Picture Name Function
Cube mold To create a cement into a cube

scoop Used to scoop ingredients into

containers

Slump plate base Place to mix all ingredients

Shovel Used to mix all ingredients in

sampling tray

Tamping rods, 16mm Used to eliminate air voids in

diameter, 600mm long with concrete when making slump
both end hemispherical tests, concrete cylinders or
conducting concrete air
entrainment test
Measure tape Used for measuring length

Curing tank To curing concrete cubes

Weigh balance To measure the materials

MATERIAL
Picture Name Meaning
Water A substance composed of the
chemical elements hydrogen
and oxygen and existing in
gaseous, liquid, and solid
states.

Cement A powdery substance made by

calcining lime and clay, mixed
with water to form mortar or
mixed with sand, gravel, and
water to make concrete.

Coarse aggregate Have wide variety of

construction applications
because they resemble
standard rock particles, as
opposed to fine aggregate,
which more closely resembles
sand.
Fine aggregate The essential ingredient in
concrete that consists of natural
sand or crushed stone.
PROCEDUR
1. Make sure the section bolted tightly and mold faces are coated with the oil.
2. Fill in the mold in 3 layers evenly and tamp 35 times for cube mold 150mm or 25 times
for cube mold 100mm size for each layer, or vibration table may be used instead of
tamping rod.
3. Finish off surface using a trowel and mark the cubes by scoring on the top, just before
concrete sets suitably for future identification.
- Marking example
- 7 days/ 14 days/28 days
- Date
- Class

4. Then leave in the mold with concrete for 24 hours under damp sacking.

5. After 24 hours, strip the concrete cube and weighing for dry cube (w1) and place all the cubes in to
the curing tank for 7, 14 and 28 days.
6. After 7 days, remove the test cube from the curing tank and wipe off surface water with the damp
cloth. Weigh the wet cube (w2).

7. Place the cube centrally on the lower platen of the compression test machine with the rough top
surface of the test cube facing toward you.

8. Lower the top platen onto the cube and ensure a uniform setting and make sure the test machine is
set to the correct loading. Closed the test machine door to avoid any injury.

9. Record all the data and repeat for concrete cube based on the age of days mark. Notes also the type
of failure and appearance of crack.
RESULT
Cube 0 days 7 days 28days After compression
1 2.32 2.343

2 2.42 2.445

3 2.44 2.461

4 2.44 2.456

5 2.44 2.461

But our cube cannot hold out during the compression on 7 days and 28 days
CONCLUSION

In the Cube Test is determined the Compressive Strength of hardening concrete. The
apparatus of the cube molds, steel rod, hand float, and compression testing machine (CTM)
are used for doing the cube test. The ratio of cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate and
water to 1:15:3% were used to prepare the concrete mixture.
The Grade 25(M25) concrete mix is used in the Cube Test After removing cubes the age of 7
and 28 days in curing bath, the cube test can be done for the harden concrete cubes.
After 28 days, the compressive strength of hardening concrete is very high. We were done
with our cube test after 7 days. According to our results, we were done our cube practical test
in very successfully.

CALCULATION
Grade 25
1:1.5:3
Total ratio: 5:5
Mass of cement
= 1/5.5 x 17.28
=3.14kg
Mass of sand
= 1.5/5.5 x 17.28
= 4.71kg
Mass of gravel
= 3/5.5 x 17.28
= 9.43kg
