Explain why you are proposing this alignment
Within the AASL Competency, it suggests that students are able to formulate questions about
an interest of theirs or a topic within the curriculum. Graphic Organizer 3.3 within the ESIFC
allows students to identify a topic, list three ideas about that topic that interests them, and then
formulate three questions from those interests. Therefore, it perfectly aligns with the AASL
Competency of formulating questions from personal interests.

Within the AASL Competency, it asks that students develop a stance after identifying different
points of view and opinions within informational texts. Graphic Organizer 5.10 within the ESIFC
allows for students to identify the topic or issue they are studying, two different points of view
on this topic with reasoning, and lastly the students must discuss their thoughts on the two
perspectives. One modification to this organizer would be for the student to develop their own
stance toward the topic or issue at hand. Therefore, this organizer fits the AASL Competency
identified well.

a teacher and peers. The organizer lists 9 attributes for feedback and also gives the student
opportunity to modify and revise their work based on the feedback received. Therefore, this
graphic organizer is a perfect match for this competency.

summarize four important ideas from a text. It then allows them to synthesize the four
important ideas to prompt students to write a strong summary. By utilizing this graphic
organizer, it requires the student to organize thoughts by priority, using a systematic scheme.
Therefore, this graphic organizer fits the competency well.

develop possible solutions during other iterations. It suggests that the student uses an
“if…then…” hypothesis to brainstorm possible solutions. It asks the student what they have
tried, how it worked, the conclusion, and lastly, allows room for improvement. Therefore, this
graphic organizer perfectly illustrates how a student can respond, reflect and improve upon a
challenge, meeting this competency.

Explain why you are proposing this alignment


Within the AASL Competency, it demands that the student understand how to be a responsible
digital citizen by being ethical when using technology and media. Graphic organizer 3.20 in the
ESIFC is a cybersafety checklist that highlights seven guidelines for students. Students are asked
to self-reflect upon these seven guidelines and apply them when using technology. It asks
students to specifically identify scenarios or applications to follow these guidelines. Therefore,
this graphic organizer perfectly embodies the AASL competency highlighted above.
