Certificates and Reflections
2023-2024
STEM Con and Beyond
STEM Con and Beyond 3 Day Seminar
30 Hours
April 14-16, 2023

STEM Con and Beyond is a conference

I’ve been attending for a few years now
and it is always such a wonderful
experience. There is so much to learn
each year and it is mostly presented by
educators that are in the field, working
with students. I appreciate that they
share their expertise and experiences
with other teachers around the country
on STEAM education and literacy. I
have gained so much from attending
these conferences every year and
recommend them highly.

Bookelicious Event
Library Girl & Friends: From A to Gen Z
Engaging the TikTok Generation with
Books
1 Hour
June 27, 2023

Bookelicious is a new site that was

introduced to me this year by the GLMS
Bookelicious Event with author K.A. Holt program. I enjoyed these webinars
No certificate given because they interviewed authors and
spoke about their latest novels. For this
particular webinar however, author K.A.
Holt spoke about formats that stray from
the traditional novel that appeal to
today’s digital readers. I appreciated
that they focused on grades K-7 for this
webinar.

Learn with Apple
Learn with Apple - Teaching and
Learning with iPad
1 Hour
July 10, 2023

The UFT Learn with Apple series was a

fantastic offering this summer. I was able to
Waiting for certificate from UFT
take advantage of almost all the scheduled
webinars and this was the first that I
attended in the series. The best part of this
webinar was when they showed the various
applications that teachers and librarians
can use for classroom management when it
comes to device use. In particular, the
Classroom App by Apple allows you to
monitor all devices at once! It’s a wonderful
tool that I used in the classroom and will
now use in the library.

Citywide Digital Library
Citywide Digital Library Provided by The
Office of LIbrary Services and Overdrive
for St. John Fisher Students
1 Hour
July 11, 2023

I have been using Sora in my library

for a few years now and this webinar
No certificate given was a nice refresher for when we
return in September. I really liked
that they walked through the program
with us and we were able to follow
along on our own accounts. It was
also fantastic that we had this
session to ourselves because it was
so personalized.

Barbara Stripland Webinar
Censorship: Facing the Challenges
Collection, Selection & Objection: The
Legal Foundations
District Policy Supports
3 Hours
July 12, 2023

Presented By: Barbara Stripling, Stephanie This webinar was so wonderful and I truly
enjoyed every moment. Barbara Stripling is
Cole Adams, Esq. & TC Ferrito incredible and I am always in awe when she
No certificate given presents. She is such a wealth of knowledge
and it was an honor to be with her during the
course this summer. I also enjoyed the legal
presentations given by Stephanie Cole Adams,
Esq. and TC Ferrito. They broke down
complicated parts of library legalities and made
it understandable and relatable. This was a
fantastic presentation for all librarians,
especially those new to the field. 7
Learn with Apple
Learn with Apple - Easy Classroom
Management
1 Hour
July 12, 2023
This was my second UFT sponsored Learn
with Apple course and this one dealt with
Waiting for certificate from UFT classroom management strategies. Again,
they brought up various apps that would
help teachers organize and manage
classroom instruction. Although I know and
use most of these features in my library, it
was a nice refresher before the year begins
for most educators. In particular, I thought
that the Airplay feature and Airdrop feature
were smart to highlight for educators. It
makes sharing content from students to
teachers easy and seamless.

Destiny Manager Training
Destiny Manager Training -
Back-to-School Checklist
1 Hour
July 12, 2023

I loved this webinar given by Follett because it

gave so many practical back-to-school tips for
new librarians. Even if you aren’t brand new,
this course was a really nice summary of all
things Destiny. I used this checklist when I
returned back in September and it made the
start of my library year so much better. The
checklist was extremely useful and easy to
follow. I also loved that they sent you the
recording so that you could play it back
whenever you needed a quick refresher or
needed clarification for something modeled
during the webinar.

AASL Training
AASL Standards and Advocacy Go
Together Like Peanut Butter and Jelly
1 Hour
July 12, 2023

I cannot say enough about the AASL trainings.

They are so well done and cover a wide array
of topics relevant to school librarians. The
catalogue of recorded webinars is vast ad this
was the first one I decided to attend. Megan
Cusick and Judy Deichman gave steps for
librarians to take to advocate for patrons and
resources from ALA’s site. This was a great
introduction to the AASL webinars and good
resource that highlighted the AASL standards,
something that at the time, I was just becoming
extremely familiar with in our courses. This
was a great companion to our GLMS
coursework.

AASL Training
AASL Virtual Field Trips for the 21st
Century Learner
1 Hour
July 12, 2023

During the pandemic, I tried to create

virtual trips for my students online. How I
wish I had this webinar before online
learning was front and center in 2020!
Kaytee Smith presented resources are
available for educators and their students
to help engage learners with places
outside the school building without
leaving their seats. She also gave tips to
facilitating virtual trips and establishing
connections with people to make the
experience not only fun and memorable,
but worthwhile. 11
AASL Training
AASL: Collaborate with Content Areas
for Deeper Learning
1 Hour
July 12, 2023

Since I integrate STEAM learning with

Library in my position, I thought this would
be a perfect webinar for me. Additionally,
since our upcoming course in the fall would
deal with collaboration, this webinar would
be a good one to attend prior to working
with another content area teacher. Jill Slay,
a high school librarian, discussed how the
library standards fit well with content
standards and gave some great ideas on
collaborating with content area teachers to
create lessons that allow students to think
critically about 21st century skills.

AASL Training
AASL: Defending Intellectual Freedom:
LGBTQ+ Materials in School Libraries
1 Hour
July 12, 2023

With discussions on censorship and

marginalized voices in both our literature
courses for the GLMS program, this webinar
was one that I thought was important to
include in my 100 hours of fieldwork. I really
loved the conversation between the three
presenters and appreciated how they spoke
about advocacy for LGBTQ+ literature in our
school libraries. This was something that
was brought up often in both literature
courses and is something as librarians we
must continue to advocate for so that these
voices aren’t censored and silenced.
13
AASL Training
AASL: Using Makerspaces to Build
Teacher/Librarian Collaboration
1 Hour
July 12, 2023

This webinar was right up my alley because

I teach Makerspace and STEAM in my
library to all grade levels, PreK-5. I’m
always looking for new ideas to add to my
library and this workshop was great. I have
a set schedule and oftentimes, teachers
aren’t given the chance to collaborate with
the librarian. However, this year I
advocated for open periods so that
teachers could work with me and
collaborate on lessons. I’m also hoping to
create kits that teachers can check out, as
mentioned in this webinar.

AASL Training
AASL: A Practical Approach to Growing
a Diverse School Library Collection and
Program
1 Hour
July 12, 2023

This webinar was useful in that it asks

librarians to take a deep dive into their
collection and review it in terms of diversity.
This is such a major focus for our school the
last few years and I was eager to assess our
collection and see what titles I could add to
the collection to build on representation. I
really loved the suggestion about changing
library hours to accommodate students and
promote library attendance. It made me think
about perhaps approaching my
administration to make the library more
accessible to all. 15
Teaching With Text Sets
Library Services: Teaching With Text
Sets
1.5 Hours
July 13, 2023

This webinar was attended by only a handful

of librarians in NYC which made it a really
personalized session for attendees. It was
given by Vincent Hyland and he presented
some really wonderful ideas to promote and
use text sets with students. I appreciated the
refresher of the MyLibrary NYC resources
and look forward to promoting this service
with teachers in the school. Since I’ve been
librarian, only two teachers have taken
advantage of this service and I hope to
educate the staff about the services that
MyLibrary NYC offers.

Learn with Apple
UFT: Learn with Apple - Personalize
Writing for ELLs & All
1 Hour
July 13, 2023
I was looking forward to this UFT Learn with
Apple session because so many of our
students are ELLs. I appreciated how the
presenter stressed that strategies used for
ELLS are good for ALL students. I do enjoy
the Learn with Apple sessions, but I do wish
that it was more scaffolded. Oftentimes they
review very basic computer usage first and
only get to the more advanced learning toward
the end of the sessions. I’ve stated on surveys
that I would love to see advanced courses for
teachers. While I did learn a few new features
with Apple products, a more advanced class
would be beneficial to those who are more
tech-savvy. 17
AASL Training
AASL: “That’s Not Real Reading:”
Making the Case for Graphic Novel
Inclusion in Every Classroom
1 Hour
July 13, 2023

After taking our literature courses, I finally

was able to read some of the more popular
titles in my school library, all of which were
graphic novels. I will admit, prior to taking
our GLMS courses, I had only read a couple
of graphic novels. I now understand the
appeal for students and find myself reading
more of them during my downtime. After
taking this webinar and reading so many
graphic novels this summer, I am a strong
advocate for this format and encourage
teachers to see Graphic novels as part of
their curriculum and classroom libraries. 18
AASL Training
AASL: Addressing the Gatekeepers:
How to Turn Comic and Graphic Novel
Skeptics into Believers
1 Hour
July 13, 2023

I decided to take another course in Graphic

Novels because I find that so many teachers
disapprove of them and don’t consider the
format as “real-reading.” As educators it is so
important that we show support and give value
to this format that children currently love.
Since becoming librarian, our graphic novel
section has grown every year because it’s the
format that students request most. The
panelists really gave such wonderful insight
into how they addressed staff concerns and
changed the mindset of staff when it came to
embracing graphic novels.

AASL Training
AASL: “Show Me” Readers, Makers,
Explorers & Innovators: Using State
Award Winning Books to Meet the
Standards
1 Hour
July 16, 2023
Since this webinar addressed STEM
instruction, I was eager to sign-up to hear what
the presenters had to share. Once again,
AASL delivered and the webinar was filled with
ideas to incorporate the 4 C’s into library
instruction with STEM activities that revolve
around books. This is exactly what I currently
teach in my library program, STEAM instruction
through read-aloud books and research. I
really loved the resources discussed in this
webinar and look forward to incorporating more
technology into my lessons, as discussed in
this webinar. 20
AASL Training
AASL: Bookstagramming: Leveraging
Instagram to Connect, Promote and
Reflect
1 Hour
July 16, 2023

My school is fairly new to using social

media to promote school events, but I’d
love for the library to take part in this
initiative. That’s why I signed up for this
webinar on using Instagram and other
social media platforms to promote and
advocate for the library program in our
school. While this webinar was primarily
geared towards older students, I find that
I could incorporate some of the strategies
shared to gain support of the library by
families in our community. 21
AASL Training
AASL: Break Barriers: Get Kids Thinking
Critically About Bias
1 Hour
July 16, 2023

School librarians and teachers have the

important responsibility of teaching students to
think critically about information they consume.
In the digital age, this skill is more important than
ever before and I was eager to hear the panelists
on this webinar discuss how they teach students
to think about bias and how to identify credible
sources. The webinars on teaching bias and
critical thinking always seem to be geared
towards middle school or high school students
and I always wish that they spoke more about
elementary age students because that’s an area
that I struggle with as an elementary school
educator. I really wish there was more out there
for our younger learners. 22
AASL Training
AASL: Digital Escape Rooms: Creative
Problem Solving for the Interactive
Classroom
1 Hour
July 16, 2023

This webinar was just so much fun and I plan

on approaching administration about doing
something like this in our school next year for
literacy night. At the end of the school year we
discussed bringing back family nights and I
advocated for a literacy night where we
brought in our local library point person to help
families sign up for library cards and had
various activities and games for students and
families to take part in. I would love to add
some of the ideas I gathered from this webinar
and create an escape room for families to try
on literacy night. I think it would be a huge hit!
23
AASL Training
AASL: Don’t #%?$ My Graphic Novels:
Conquering Challenges and Protecting
the Right to Read
1 Hour
July 16, 2023
I am really enjoying the webinars on
graphic novels and continue to sign up for
the ones that address this format of text.
There are so many staff members that
disapprove of graphic novels in their
classrooms and the AASL webinars that
deal with converting skeptics into believers
are so helpful. Because of this webinar, I
purchased Understanding Comics by Scott
McCloud and after reading it myself, I hope
to make it a staff book club book so that we
can dispel some of the myths about comic
books and graphic novels. 24
AASL Training
AASL: Graphic Novels are For
Everyone!
1 Hour
July 16, 2023

As you can see, I’ve signed up for so many

graphic novel sessions because I really
enjoyed so many of them this summer. My
graphic novel section in my school collection is
growing each year and I’m always looking for
new books to add to this section of the library.
The kids get so excited when new novels come
in and this webinar gave me some contenders
to add to my purchasing list in September. I
really loved the section where they highlighted
non-fiction graphic novels and realized that I
needed to add more of them to our collection in
my library. I also appreciated the tie-in with
digital tools and graphic novels.
25
Learn with Apple
UFT: Learn with Apple - Teaching and
Learning with Mac
1 Hour
July 18, 2023
In this Learn with Apple session, they
addressed the differences between learning
and teaching with the iPad vs. the Mac. Since
my school is primarily an Apple school, I
wanted to sign up for all the sessions that use
the various Apple tools so that I could
incorporate them into my daily library lessons.
My hopes for this upcoming year are to add
more digital tools and applications to student
responses. Since we’re slowly becoming
solely digital for state exams, I want to help
prepare the kids by making some of my daily
lessons digital and give them the chance to
respond on a device, rather than paper and
pencil. 26
Follett Training
Follett: Shannon’s Summer Series on
Leadership: Part II: Technology
Integration
1 Hour
July 19, 2023

I find that the Follett webinars that are given

are always filled with practical ideas to
integrate into your library practice. I also love
that these sessions are more advanced in their
discussion of digital tools and that they present
the most up-to-date technologies. In this
webinar, Shannon Miller spoke about tools that
I hadn’t toyed around with yet like ChatGPT
and digital storytelling. I appreciated the
discussion of using AI software because it’s
something I’m not very familiar with yet and I’m
eager to learn more about, especially since
kids are already using the technology.
27
Seesaw Ambassador Training
Seesaw: 2023 Refresh Course for
Seesaw Ambassadors
1 Hour
July 19, 2023
I have always been a huge fan of Seesaw as a
digital tool to use with early childhood students
and because of this, I’ve been my school’s
Seesaw Ambassador for the last few years.
Every year they send you a refresher course to
keep you abreast of all the new features and
technologies available on the application. I then
can turn key this information to staff. I often give
PD on Seesaw and create lessons for teachers
to use with their students. I’ve created hundreds
of lessons on our school’s platform within
Seesaw and look forward to including even more
this year. This course allows me to learn the
most current versions of Seesaw and help
advocate its use in classrooms.
28
AASL Training
AASL: How to Use StoryCorps Connect
as a School Librarian
1 Hour
July 22, 2023
StoryCorps was something I had heard of in
other webinars but didn’t know too much about
and that’s why I decided to sign up for this
webinar from AASL. After attending this
workshop, I’m eager to share this resource with
4th grade teachers. During their first unit of
study in social studies, they talk about
interviewing loved ones and learn about the
interview process. I think this site would be a
wonderful resource to help support the
teachers and students in 4th grade. Even
though I believe this webinar was given in
response to virtual learning with Covid, the
resource is still a powerful tool that can be
used now that we’re back in person. 29
AASL Training
AASL: It All Fits Together: The New
National Standards for Learners, School
Librarians, & School Libraries
1 Hour
July 23, 2023

After taking a few of the GLMS courses,

I’m still learning how to use the AASL
standards and felt that this webinar
would give me more insight into those
standards and would also introduce me
to the National School Library Standards
(NSLS). I particularly liked the section
about how the AASL standards align
with the NSLS.

30
AASL Training
AASL: The Power of Manga, Comics, &
Graphic Novels through the Lens of the
AASL Standards Frameworks for
Learners
1 Hour
July 23, 2023
Once again, I found another webinar on
Graphic Novels, but this one also dealt with
Manga, something that my kids have been
asking for and that I’ve been trying to find
age-appropriate texts to add to my school
library collection. I read my first Manga during
our first GLMS course and understand it far
better than I did before starting the program,
but I am always eager to learn more. I
appreciated how they tied comic books,
graphic novels and manga to the AASL shared
foundations. This helps librarians advocate for
more of these books in their collections. 31
AASL Training
AASL: Addressing Challenges in
America’s School Libraries
1 Hour
July 25, 2023

This webinar was split into two parts. Part one

addressed the challenges libraries face today
and how we can all advocate on local and
national levels. Part two discussed laws and
policies that protect us from challenges that
librarians and libraries face. I think this was a
great webinar, especially for beginning
librarians. Even though I’ve been in this
position for a few years, there are laws and
policies that am I just learning now that I’m part
of the GLMS program. I continue to learn more
about the rights and laws we have that combat
censorship and other library challenges and
this session helped.
32
Bookelicious Event
Bookelicious Event: You Are Here:
Connecting Flights
1 Hour
July 25, 2023

As a Title I school with a large percentage of

Asian-American students, I am constantly
looking for books that my students can use as
Bookelicious Event with author Ellen Oh mirrors and that add to the representation in
my school’s collection. I was very happy to
No certificate given see that Bookelicious had an event with a
Korean-American author who is also the CEO
of the non-profit group, We Need Diverse
Books. This was a great session with the
author who spoke about her latest book, You
Are Here: Connecting Flights. I look forward to
adding some of her titles to my school library
collection and to continue to find
Asian-American authors to add as well.
33
Learn with Apple
UFT: Learn with Apple: Easy Classroom
Management
1 Hour
July 26, 2023

In this UFT Learn with Apple session, they

shared ways to use technology to help with
classroom management. While this was
geared more toward classroom teachers, there
were plenty of take-aways that I could use as
the school librarian. First, I will be asking for
iPads for the library to update the very
outdated laptops that are currently being used.
Once I am able to get a cart with updated
technology, I plan on using some of the
applications (like Classroom) as a way to
manage the online behaviors of my students in
the library.
34
ALA Training
AASL: Celebrating Literacy with Youth in
Your Community: Read Across America
All Year Long
1 Hour
July 26, 2023

This webinar had so many presenters and

so many different experiences which was
unique and wonderful to see. I really
enjoyed the idea of making Read Across
America something that is celebrated all
year long, rather than just an isolated
event. So often we see events come and
go without anything that really makes an
impact. I like that they shared ideas and
tips to keep shared literacy something
that happens all year long.
35
Destiny Manager Training
Follett: Destiny Resource Manager
Training – Back-to-School
1 Hour
July 26, 2023

This webinar was so helpful! This session was

a follow up to previous session about
back-to-school items on Destiny. As a first
year librarian, this might be a little
overwhelming, but now that I’ve been doing
this for a few years, this webinar was perfect.
The checklist was extremely easy to follow and
so very helpful in starting up my school year.
Follett is always great about sending a
recording of the seminar once you’ve
registered, so I was able to rewind and review
sections of the video when I returned back to
work in August for set-up.
36
ALA Training
ALA: Rainbow Connections: Celebrating
LGBTQ+ Kids and Allies in Your
Community and Beyond
1 Hour
July 26, 2023

I spoke about the diverse texts and varied voices

we’ve discussed in our GLMS coursework, so
naturally I wanted to attend another webinar on
this topic. I’ve always believed that the library
was everyone’s home - a place where all
students felt welcomed and heard. I am so glad
that there’s a movement to consciously include
diverse texts on all levels of school libraries. I
think it’s so important that all patrons feel like
they are represented within the library shelves
and find mirrors and windows of their own. This
event also speaks to making an LGBTQ+ group
within the school.
37
ALA Training
ALA: Fighting Fake News Through
Public Libraries
1 Hour
July 26, 2023

With the term “fake news” being used

everywhere lately, it is more important than
ever before that librarians and libraries address
the need of educating patrons in digital literacy.
We have to actively teach how to access
information for accuracy and bias and teach
students how to recognize these things in the
media they consume. This seminar addresses
this issue head on and provides librarians with
the tools to identify places where literacy
strategies can be taught naturally. It also
addressed how to create new programming for
libraries that focus on information literacy.
38
ALA Training
ALA: Giving Storytime a Tune-Up
Embedding Music Activities to Support
Texts and Engage Participants
1 Hour
July 27, 2023

I was interested in attending this webinar

because I love using various kinds of media
when I have read-alouds in the library. I started
using Novel Effect for my younger students last
year and thought that this seminar would be a
good compliment to that program. I was also
happy that there was a webinar that focused on
our littlest learners. This was an interesting
presentation and I think I might be able to
incorporate some of the techniques shown with
my ACES classes next year because they do
very well with adding songs, rhythms and dance
to our library read-alouds.
39
ALA Training
ALA: Social Emotional Learning in the
Library
4 Hours
July 27, 2023
Over the last few years there has been a huge
push for SEL learning in every classroom and I
was curious to see what this seminar would
offer librarians. This was a very in depth
seminar that really focused on the history and
research behind SEL education and its
importance in today’s classrooms. I really
appreciated that this presentation was specific
to libraries and librarians and how we can
incorporate SEL into everything we do. I
specifically liked the section on mindfulness
and how to integrate it into your library
program. I would like to try some of the yoga
techniques that were presented with my
students this year. 40
AASL Training
AASL: Adapted Library: Ideas and
Strategies for Students on the Autism
Spectrum and Non-Categorical
Disabilities
1 Hour
July 28, 2023
When taking the position of librarian, I wanted to
make sure that I was equipped to teach all levels
that I would see as a cluster. One of the things that
I immediately asked my administration was to
provide me with more PD around catering to our
students with special needs. I wanted to make
sure that I was providing them with experiences
that would be beneficial to their school careers. I
was very happy to see this seminar offered and
signed up for it immediately. Adapted library was a
wonderful resource and I will be applying some of
the strategies discussed with my students on the
autism spectrum along with my ACES classes.
41
AASL Training
AASL: Critical Conversations Through
Read-Alouds of Paired Picture Books
1 Hour
July 28, 2023

I really enjoyed this webinar because it showed

how you can pair stories and make them far
more interactive and meaningful. It reminded
me a lot of the stories we used to read when I
taught second graders. We would often pair
books that had similar plots from different
cultures and speak about the author’s voice
and point of view. The conversations that
would come out of those lessons were some of
the best we would have all year and really
would incite discussion. This webinar also
spoke to the danger of a single story,
something that we have discussed often over
the last year in our coursework.
42
AASL Training
AASL: Create and Curate a Digital
Library
1 Hour
July 28, 2023

I was looking forward to this webinar

because while I have been working
diligently on building a stronger physical
library in our school, I have yet to create a
stronger digital library for my students.
With the addition of Sora over the last few
years, I haven’t purchased as many
digital titles because so many are
available through the Citywide Digital
Library. I did, however, take away some
really cool ways to integrate Google and
other popular apps into my library
program as a result of this webinar. 43
AASL Training
AASL: Do the Bot: Librarians Using
Robots to Impact Learning
1 Hour
July 28, 2023
I really loved this webinar because I have been
trying to incorporate more robotics into my
STEAM lessons but really haven’t found the
time. I also haven’t had the time to tinker
around with the robots we have in our building,
but after watching this webinar I feel a lot more
confident about teaching robotics to my library
students. I think perhaps I might approach
administration to have a library robotics club
and I would then be able to fully concentrate on
creating lessons for our robots. Our school
currently has Dot and Dash, Code and Go
Mice and Sphero. I’d love to collaborate with
some of the teachers and create a robotics
club in the library. 44
Apple Teacher Academy
UFT: Apple Teacher Academy for iPad –
Day 1 iPad Foundations
1 Hour
August 7, 2023

I signed up for the whole UFT Apple Teacher

Academy series for both iPad and Mac
because I plan on incorporating more digital
tools into my library program. With the state
tests being online starting this year and
including more grades in the following years, I
think it’s important that we have the students
practice responding and working with digital
tools. The first course in this series dealt with
the foundations for the iPad and much of it was
review for me. I did learn about a few tricks to
use with students to use the built-in apps on
the iPad to engage students in lessons.
45
Apple Teacher Academy
UFT: Apple Teacher Academy for iPad –
Day 2 Pages & Keynote
1 Hour
August 8, 2023

This webinar focused on the applications of

Pages and Keynote and how to use both in
your own lessons and with students. Pages is
a lot like Microsoft Word and the students are
pretty adept at using it in their classrooms.
Keynote is similar to Microsoft Powerpoint and
I am planning on teaching the upper grade
elementary students how to create
presentations. The session gave a few tips
and tricks to use with students, but much of the
series so far is review for me. I did voice once
again that I would love to see a more advanced
course given by Apple for more tech-savvy
teachers.

Bookelicious Event
Bookelicious Middle Grade Book Club
with Library Girl – Not an Easy Win
1 Hour
August 8, 2023

This zoom call was the last Bookelicious

webinar for the summer and it was a
discussion with author Chrystal Giles. She
Bookelicious Event with author Chrystal G. discussed her book, Not an Easy Win and how
she advocates for diverse books and
Giles - No certificate given representation for students. I really enjoyed
these webinars this summer because it was
like an adult version of “Meet the Author” day in
school. People were encouraged to ask
questions and interact with the authors via the
chat and the atmosphere was just great. I’m
curious to see if I can try using Bookelicious
with a classroom this year and pilot using the
Bookmoji’s with one of my library classes.

Day 3 Numbers
1 Hour
August 9, 2023

This webinar focused on Numbers, an

application I have never been confident in
using. Like Microsoft Excel, Numbers is a
spreadsheet program that can be used to track
information and identify trends or organize data
into categories that are useful and meaningful.
Personally, I find it difficult to use and I don’t
understand it as well as I do other processing
programs. This webinar showed some
practical uses for the application, but didn’t
have the time to truly go in depth. While I did
learn a few little things, I still don’t feel
confident enough to use it in my classroom
with students.

Day 4 iMovie
1 Hour
August 10, 2023

This was a really great webinar on a tool that

I’ve been eager to use with older elementary
school students. iMovie is a program used to
merge video with audio and allows you to edit
the media into a professional looking
presentation. I have used iMovie before for a
multitude of things: from end of year memory
DVDs for students to creating how-to videos for
families and staff. I love how user-friendly the
program is and I think I can probably work
collaboratively with the 5th grade students in
producing their own videos for school and
teaching them the editing tools that iMovie
offers.

Day 5 Garageband
1 Hour
August 11, 2023

Garageband is a digital tool that I’ve tinkered

with, but never really learned until now. While
time was limited, I was able to get a handle on
how this program works. I think it would be a
wonderful resource for our music department
and hopefully I’ll get a chance to give a PD
session to the music staff or work
collaboratively with the music teachers on a
project using Garageband with students. I’m
looking forward to the second session of
Garageband later this month on the Mac.
Hopefully it’ll provide us with an even deeper
understanding of the program.

Seesaw Two Day Seminar
10 Hours - 2 Day Seminar
August 12-13, 2023

As stated previously on my Seesaw

Attended the event after the live meetings. I Ambassador webinar, I am a huge advocate for
this application and its use in early childhood
was unable to attend live, so I was able to classrooms. This is the first time they’ve had a
register for the recorded sessions. No CTLE huge event like this and the webinars
presented during the two-day seminar were
credit was given to recorded sessions only wonderful. Unfortunately I couldn’t attend live,
live sessions. but they provided recorded sessions for all the
webinars the day after the event. I was able to
Therefore, no certificate given. complete the 10 hours of sessions over the
course of two days. You’ll find the listings of
offerings on the next page. My favorite
sessions were the hands-on learning sessions
and the presentations on new features in the
updated application.

Day 1 Mac Foundations
1 Hour
August 14, 2023

Similar to the iPad Foundations webinar I

attended previously, this session dealt with
the tips and tricks of using a Mac versus
using the iPad. While features are the
same, some commands are different and
the functionality of each device has its
differences too. Nothing in this webinar
was groundbreaking, it was more of a
review of the device for beginners, but it
was a useful webinar for educators who are
hoping to use their Mac more efficiently.

Day 2 Pages and Keynote
1 Hour
August 15, 2023

Again, like the iPad seminar, this session went

over the same content, but on a Mac. The
functions were all the same, but the commands
or the location of the commands differ from one
product to the next.

Day 3 Numbers
1 Hour
August 16, 2023

The Mac session today was very similar to the

iPad session at the start of the month. The
same teaching points were used for this
webinar, but the step-by-step instructions for
the function differed from one device to the
next. It helps to know both since students
bring a multitude of devices with them to the
library. It’ll be good to know all types of
devices so that you could help troubleshoot if
necessary.

Day 4 iMovie
1 Hour
August 17, 2023

The biggest takeaway for me between this

session and the iMovie session for the iPad
was that there were so many more functions
on the Mac then there were for the iPad. While
the iPad is more accessible for younger
students, the Mac would be better to use for
older elementary students because they are
given so many more options on the Mac
version of the program.

Day 4 Garageband
1 Hour
August 21, 2023

This was the last session for the UFT Apple

Teacher Academy, and similar to iMovie, the
functions on the Mac were far greater in
Garageband than they were for the iPad. The
one drawback, however, was the ability to use
the touchscreen for the instruments. It wasn’t
as easy to compose music on the Mac than it
was on the iPad.

Follett Training
Follett: Shannon’s Summer Series on
Leadership: Part III: This School Year
1 Hour
August 24, 2023

For my last webinar, I decided to attend

another Follett presentation. This closed
up the summer series on library leadership
and discussed innovative ways to meet the
needs of the learners in your community,
both students and staff. I like this series
because the sessions are always given by
people who are working in the field and
bring such expertise to the sessions. I
especially love that they share things that
have worked for them in their own libraries
and how to establish yourself as a leader in
your building.
